Putting a contract together was probably the hardest, most stressful part about being a working photographer. There just aren't any standard templates out there that I think properly cover the type of work I do. I spent several weeks researching different contracts, browsing through AIGA, reading through all the legal jargon, talking with and getting advice from other professional photographers, taking snippets from the contracts that labels have made me sign, and going through all the homework material my boyfriend's mom had from a contract-writing class she was taking. Even after all of that, I still only had a rough blueprint for a contract. What pulled it all together was reflecting on the past experiences I've had with the hundreds of clients I've worked with over the years. I think the only reason I have a pretty strong contract now is because I've been screwed over in the past and I now know what to put in my contract to avoid situations like that in the future.

Overall, here's some good things to include in a contract: A summary of the services, the client's rights to the material, my maintained rights to the material, an outline of how the images can and can't be used, a summary of the payment plan, potential additional fees, etc. Like I said, contracts are almost always a work in progress as you encounter different situations working with different people. For me, it's all a learning experience and your contract will get stronger the more experience you have.

Yes, but I rarely/never hand them out cuz I hate them. I need to get some new ones made.

Ha, I think you answered your own question. I couldn't say. Every situation is so different; that's part of being a skilled photographer is knowing how to adjust to these situations.

Not really. My hair gets really dry, but I think because each individual hair is so thin (I have a TON of hair, but it's all thin hairs) I don't really get noticeable split ends.

I haven't made one since I was in high school, haha. I'll probably be putting one together again soon now that I'm a design major at SDSU.

Just started up another fitness routine yesterday. Eating healthy and working out. I plan on sticking to this until July (Comic Con, haha).

I used to hate shopping. Lately I've been doing a lot more of it if I'm within proximity of an Urban Outfitters' sale, Forever 21, or Buffalo Exchange. I don't like to spend money on clothing, but I probably buy something new, at the most, twice a month.

Thanks! Not really. I think I've just been blessed with naturally clear skin. I also don't clog my pores with heavy makeup, so that helps.

I use a spray fixatif and keep them in a cheap portfolio folder (with scrap paper in between to they don't smudge onto each other).

I don't know enough about the situation to give an educated opinion. In the past, I've been to some of Invisible Children's events about raising awareness, so it's pretty awesome to see something like this spread so quickly and to such a larger audience. If they can keep up the attention on the issue, maybe something can be done about it. But the unfortunate part about relying on the popular media to raise awareness is the media gets bored very quickly. Celebrities will stop tweeting about it and Tumblr-ers will stop reblogging about it probably way before anything even happens.

When I first started learning coding, I used Creating Websites Bible 2nd Edition, and Learn HTML in a Weekend. However, those books are incredibly outdated now and coding has advanced rapidly in the last couple years. My methods of hand-coding HTML/CSS are really far behind. There are plenty of resources out there if you want to learn though. I personally don't have any suggestions since I'm pretty outdated myself, but I would take advantage of books published within the last year and even lynda.com tutorials.

I love the cover photo idea, but I hate the timeline (it doesn't make sense design-wise; the eye naturally wants to read up and down, then move to the next column across; not jump across columns as you read...).

I wouldn't suggest one. Flash is annoying to the band and everyone around you. Plus, the look it creates doesn't embody the actual feel of the live experience, in my opinion.

Any healthy couple needs to have serious fights. But our fighting style is so ridiculously methodical, we rarely ever end up saying things we don't mean or allowing the fight to drag on for much longer than necessary. We usually start by explaining why we're mad and what we're feeling, give specific and concrete examples of what the other person did to make us mad (rather than saying, "You made me FEEL this way" we say "You did THIS [insert specific detail here] and that made me feel like this [insert vague emotion]"), and brainstorm how we can avoid or deal with a similar situation in the future. Usually after that's all been said and done, we both feel great and move on. Sometimes it'll take a bit more talking it out to fully feel like we're on the same page, but Dave is really great about repeating back to me everything I'm feeling and explaining what he's going to do in the future to make it better -- and he, 9 times out of 10, follows through. While I do my part to be as logical and reasonable as possible and never treat our fights like I'm trying to win. We fight for each other, not against each other.
