I read loads at once - normally one or two physical books and an e-book. They have to be reasonably different, though! For example, at the moment I'm reading a short story collection spanning various genres, an adult fantasy, and a YA contemporary. I can't cope with two of the same genre without getting confused!

I either pick up something completely different from anything I've read recently - so maybe an adult thriller if I've overdosed on YA paranormal - or reread something I know I love. Switching to graphic novels for a bit tends to help me, as well.

Writing fiction. I love blogging, but being a published author has been my dream for as long as I can remember.

Go for it! Tips I wish I'd known when I started...

      1. Comment on other people's blogs as much as you can - but make sure they're thoughtful comments rather than just spamming a link to your blog.

      2. Tweet lots, and retweet great stuff other people post!

      3. Take part in memes like Top Ten Tuesday, Waiting on Wednesday and TGIF.

      Hope they help!

The Kat Stephenson series by Stephanie Burgis is just amazing. Also well worth checking out - For The Record by Ellie Irving, Flip-Flop Club: Charmed Summer by Ellen Richardson, and Eight Keys by Suzanne LaFleur.

I don't do star ratings on the blog - although I do on the Bookbag - but rarely bother reviewing books I didn't enjoy on there. If it's a book an author or publisher sent me to review I'll review it whatever - there have been a couple of spectacularly negative ones I've done over at the Bookbag including one which I summarised as 'Two men have a miserable time. Actually, make that three men including this reader.'

That said, the point of my blog is to share news and reviews about books and help promote them. I read roughly a book a day and review perhaps 3 a week on the blog - I'd much rather choose the ones I enjoyed and recommend them to people than moan about the ones I didn't like. I think the most negative review I've written was on Jenny Han's 'The Summer I Turned Pretty', which I thought was overrated with a vapid narrator - I'm more likely to post a negative review of something like that which most people are enjoying, to provide a balanced viewpoint, than to join in when most people are criticising something.

On a similar note, I only go for blog tours for stuff I'm happy promoting. I was offered a place on a blog tour for a recent release that some people are really enjoying - but having reviewed it for the Bookbag and said the plot was 'stagnant' and the characters had no interesting qualities, I decided I'd rather my space went to someone who'd at least have a chance of enjoying it!

Great question, by the way - really thought-provoking. (As you can tell by the way it's taken me 2 weeks to answer it!)

Through Twitter and through commenting on people's blogs - 2 great ways to have conversations about books and blogging! (Only just getting into Formspring but this looks good as well. :) )

I think Michael Grant's GONE series is crying out to be filmed! Would also love to see the wonderful Skin Deep by Laura Jarratt on screen.

I say the letters separately - I got really confused last week when someone asked me if I got many 'arcs'!

Something in publishing involving reading, reviewing and promoting books! (If anyone has any vacancies, let me know...)

    12. yayeahyeah

Lots! Usually at least one a day. I tend to read reviews of stuff I've already read mainly though, to see what other people thought of it.

I normally try to read the book first, but thinking about it I might be better off doing it the other way round. I saw the TV version of Coming Home by Rosamunde Pilcher and loved it, then read the book and loved it even more - I think if I'd read the book first the massive changes would have stopped me enjoying the screen one so much. (They definitely did with Captain Corelli's Mandolin, which I watched just after reading the book and hated, then rewatched a few years later and actually quite liked.)

Skin Deep by Laura Jarratt - I keep raving about this one because it was PHENOMENAL, truly amazing.

    15. yayeahyeah

I try and spend at least a few hours a week commenting on other blogs - normally mainly on Top Ten Tuesdays and Waiting on Wednesdays, which are my favourite posts - so many great books to find out about!

    16. yayeahyeah

They're adult rather than YA but Shadowfall and Shadowblood by Tracy Revels - Sherlock Holmes stories with Holmes as a half-fairy - are phenomenal.

    17. yayeahyeah

I think blogging about older books is a really good idea - these days most new releases have tons of reviews out whereas it can be much harder to find reviews of books from several years ago (except for the really big stuff, of course.)

    18. yayeahyeah

For a serious one, Skin Deep by Laura Jarratt is amazing, dealing with disfigurement, grief and discrimination. For a light read, Swim The Fly and Beat the Band by Don Calame are fantastic.

    19. yayeahyeah

I really love the idea of a cartoon of Wereworld, personally. I'd also be very interested in a screen adaptation of Vixen by Jillian Larkin or Beautiful Days by Anna Godbersen.

Laura Jarratt for writing the phenomenal Skin Deep, Sam Hawksmoor for writing the wonderful The Repossession and Stephanie Guerra for the superb debut Torn.
