I'm honestly not even sure how to answer this, so I'm going to go about it step by step. Old, pre-candy editting style, eh? I don't think there was ever just one style, and the "candy" style wayyyy predates my entering the editting scene. The amv that inspired me to become an editor after all was Koop's "Skittles" amv. Also, I think many of the "candy" styles were inspired by M@Ds, which go back quite some time.

I suppose you mean before the "candy" style got popularized... well, I'm entirely indifferent to it, so I don't like it more or less than a raw amv. It's just about the look of the amv overall. I think for some amvs it's quite appropriate.

Maybe I'm not explaining myself well...

I like all styles so long as they represent the basis of editting (timing, lyric awareness, mood, etc.) on at least some level. What I don't like is when people use effects simply because they think they have to, or because they saw someone else do it and they want to copy it. I like originality, and I will always value that.

However, it's somewhat impossible to ALWAYS be original... you'd have to be a bit of a genius to always be one step ahead of editting trends...

Anyway, the second part was "when everyone was still learning how to edit". Keep in mind that there were many many editors who were already very experienced and who simply used a-m-v.org to showcase their videos instead of youtube. Among my acquaintance (because it's only natural to get to know people at a similar skill level), people were indeed still learning. Even now, we're all still learning, and still improving. I have many of the same friends I had back then, and we're all STILL on a similar skill level. The community around me hasn't changed in that sense. I guess we're a little more cool about it =P we no longer go OMG HOW DID YOU TAKE OUT THE BACKGROUND ON THAT CLIP??? and we don't think chroma key is the best thing since sliced bread, but there are still plenty of times that I hear myself or a friend asking about a particular effect and learning to use new ones.

And another thing to keep in mind: new, inexperienced editors are popping up all the time. And while some of them are googly-eyed over the heavy effects videos, some come to me and say, "Can you critique my timing? I want to be a good raw editor" etc. The line between effects and raw is quite blurred anyway...

In conclusion, I think we have as much of a style mix, and as much of a variety of skill levels, as we had back then. I don't think the editting community has changed that much in that sense.

Sorry for the rant o.o; the question flustered me slightly XD

Yes and no. I will always be sad when editors stop editting and move on, but at the same time, change can be a good thing! I've made so many new friends among the new editors! So, yes, I miss the editors who've left, but no, I don't miss the "old community" since I'm happy with the current one too!

Probably... october? I love the apples, the cider, the colors on the trees, etc. It's a fun month, especially with Halloween *w*

I look for the best I can get =0 usually, I prefer DVDrip, which comes in many sizes. The resolution isn't necessarily the same as good quality.

I really liked both of the Macross Frontier movies. I have always been a Ranka fan, but the movies helped my sympathize a little more with Sheryl. Things I liked: the music, the animation, the plot. My favorite scene was during Ranka's Houkago Overflow, when she sings "Aishiteru" and the butterfly wings appear on her back as she's singing to Alto. It really wrenches at my heart strings. They made her a stronger character in the movies than she was in the series. Her confession "I'm more afraid of hearing your feelings than of singing in the midst of battle" was just... amazing. Sheryl I feel was better developed in the movies as well. The part about her being a part of a plot to harvest Ranka's organs freaked me out though o.O Overall, the costuming in the movies was MUCH MUCH better than the series. Sheryl's Usagi White costume was amazing, and Ranka's Niji Iro Kuma Kuma outfit is now on my "Must Cosplay" list. A lot of great new songs. "Get it On" and "d Shooting Star b" were awesome new duets that I adore. All in all, the music from Sayonara no Tsubasa blew the music from the Itsuwari no Utahime and the series out of the water... with the exception of Universal Bunny.

Things I didn't like: there was not enough of the girls during the fighting/singing sequences. The random Sheryl/Alto meeting as kids thing came out of nowhere and was obviously pulled out of the producer's asses to tip the scales towards Sheryl. Additionally the flip/flop of certain scenes such as Sheryl intruding on Ranka's aimo song, or the role reversal of the falling scene at the beginning (Sheryl instead of Ranka) and so on annoyed me. In the first movie, I would like to have seen a little more Ranka singing. Sheryl's costume in the final scene of Sayonara no Tsubasa annoyed the pants off of me. Her hair looked like a giant cannoli...

The ending was tough for a lot of reasons. As I've already stated, I'm a Ranka fan, so I was rooting for her to win. I like Sheryl, too, but Ranka is just precious to me. I felt bad for Sheryl going into a coma. I was happy to see Alto go bye-bye. The very end, where Ranka starts to sing Hoshi Kira is a beautiful scene and it breaks my heart every time I watch it. The ending was beautiful and sad at the same time. Both satisfying and dissatisfying.

As you can tell, I have a lot of feelings about this :D
