Get some nice film that suits your conditions (100-200 asa for outside) and remember to set aperture and focus length! I haven't actually used my trip for ages but as i remember, you don't have to do much really to get nice results.

hmm, no, I don't think so. I don't tend to dwell on the past very much.

Because i saw Livejournal as a personal, introspective thing and I wanted to write more generally and consciously to an outside audience. I don't feel like I need a diary type thing any more. I hope my blog still has a friendly tone, though!

I don't know about 'the world' (many parts of the world haven't yet accessed/don't care about social networks) but I think it makes a difference to how we communicate and function. It makes it a lot easier to find like-minded people which in turn leads to more opportunities. I wouldn't have my current job if it wasn't for it.. so yes, I think it's a good thing for those who have access.

I usually do a mood board first of all.. I'll gather a whole load of images from my tumblr, flickr faves and delicious accounts - I'm constantly adding things I find inspiring so have a big pool to draw from. And I usually grab a sketchpad or open up Illustrator and just get a blurt of initial ideas out too - it helps to get the horrible, obvious ideas out of the way :) Often I form an idea in my mind of the finished product right away but it's usually wrong to go with your first idea, so I try to push that aside and do lots more options. Then if I'm working with someone else, we'll bat these ideas back and forth til we've decided on a solid route. Generally I'll get the 'look and feel' stuff done first, then evolve that into a full website design.

I've been eating even more since starting my Japanese cooking classes! First off, buy good quality firm tofu - Clean Bean organic is a really good one, or Dragonfly (who sell a great ready-deep-fried block). I like crispy fried tofu the best, and the trick is to get all the moisture out before frying by wrapping in kitchen towel and pressing with a plate for 15 minutes or so. I like to season with Japanese seven spice, salt and chilli and fry over a high heat for a few minutes. Or dust with cornflour and add teriyaki sauce to the pan to glaze (equal quantities of soy, mirin and sake and a little sugar). It also makes a really delicious dip (a bit like houmous) if mashed with sesame oil, soy and mirin.

Oh lord that's hard.. I would have to go to Kaira's cafe for lunch and Mikoan for dinner, and in the day i would either walk the Philosopher's Path or the trail up to Kiyomizudera temple.. and I'd have to make sure I hit downtown again just to go to Loft and buy more homewares!

Probably natto, which is a Japanese fermented soybean product. It has a really pungent smell and awful slimy texture. It's one of the few Japanese foods I find really disgusting!

I am exhausted a lot of the time :) but I find making real things - be it food, knitting or embroidery - a welcome relief from making digital stuff for my day job that doesn't really exist at all except on a server somewhere. So it's kind of a form of relaxing and unwinding for me.

Since I was about four years old (although I ate certain things until I was 8 or so) - apparently when I found out that meat comes from animals I just started leaving it on the side of my plate. If I wasn't already veggie though, I would be now anyway for ethical reasons. The thought of eating meat is just pretty alien to me now so I don't really think about it too often.

I'm all quite excited about font-replacement technology at the moment - it's slowly making the idea of 'web safe' fonts more obsolete which is great. I'm not actually trained as a print designer so I'm not very well-versed in the subtleties of print design...

But in general terms my favorite 'standard' fonts for web copy are Trebuchet MS and Georgia. My favourite 'designy' fonts that I always seem to fall back on are Lubalin Display, Futura (bold), Univers (compressed), CAC Champagne (a lovely free script face), Avenir, Bookman, Avant Garde.. I have lots :)

*Vagina - yes, in Hindi. But it's also a Hebrew boys' name, ironically - short for Yonatan, the Hebrew form of Jonathan. Our cat is named after the lead singer of the band Why?, Yoni Wolf.

I don't think the alternate meaning is that commonly known in the UK - I hadn't heard it, at least - even if it is.. he's a cat, he can't be embarrassed by it.

It changes so often, and it's hard to say based purely on design, as I think good design is closely related to good content and function. One that springs to mind that ticks all the boxes is http://idsgn.org - big bright images, clean grid, and a dream to use.

Nothing much actually springs to mind..! Probably gifts from my family, jewellery and my photo albums. My iMac too if i could lug it out :)
