I find us to be a generally good intentioned species, but power does horrible things to our moral centers. Those without power more often than not are those with the best intentions, though admittedly those in positions of power have their actions under more scrutiny. I genuinely believe we are capable of good, even though I've seen plenty of evidence to the contrary.
