The process for Theta Mu's MIP is dictated by their national organization, not the chapter or campus. It is easy to consider 2 weeks a process if that is the national standard set by AKA. There is a misconception that a process is dictated by time, and that is a myth. A process is deemed effective and valid by new members learning growth and development within their organization.

The best way to express interest in AKA is to attend their chapter programs/events, and working with these women in different organizations on campus. It is important to get to know them, but they are also trying to get to know you. You shouldn't try to befriend or get to know a member JUST because you want to become an AKA. Members can read through that and it will not benefit your chance of being selected. Many members, both new and old are involved in organizations so this is a good opportunity to meet them and allow them to see your work ethic. Getting to know members is good but it does not guarantee you members. There are women who have had best friends in the sorority and were still not extended an invitation for membership. The honest and true way of becoming an AKA is to have academic excellence (above a minimum 2.5) and showcase leadership and service throughout the campus and community.

Any student that meets the minimum membership eligibility requirements of an organization and UCA is eligible to join a fraternity or sorority.
-
You cannot join two social fraternities and/or sororities at the same time.
-
As long as you meet the minimum membership eligibility requirements and an organization is conducting recruitment and/or intake, then you can join. Just be sure that you attend all information sessions in order to learn important dates and eligibility requirements.
-
Organization's probates are organized and ran by individual groups, so they have the option to host the events in any venue that will accommodate their needs. Old Main has been suggested to organizations in the past, but none of the groups have chosen to utilize that venue.
-
The AKAs will not make a decision about the possibility of a fall line until early in the semester. It would be best to attend Greek info sessions at the start of the fall 2013 semester to learn if they will conduct intake during the semester.

Each individual organization has different practices of notifying candidates of their application status. In a perfect world they would tell you why you were not selected for membership, unfortunately, organizations reserve the right not to disclose that information if they so choose. Most of the NPHC organizations do not disclose why candidates were or were not selected, and the best option to finding out would be to contact a chapter advisor or president to see if they would be willing to share with you what you can do to improve your chance if you decide to rush again.

At this time, we have not heard anything from Sigma Gamma Rho Sorority, Inc. regarding membership intake. We would suggest contacting Dr. Monika Alson-Miller by e-mail at alstonm@uca.edu to inquire about their membership intake intentions.

There are many factors that go into being accepted into any fraternity or sorority. Some of the basic qualities include:
-GPA
-Campus Involvement
-Philanthropy and/or service
-Community Involvement
-Interview performance
In addition, fit is a part of the decision process for fraternities and sororities. If an individual is not a good fit for the culture of a chapter, then also factors into the decision process. -
That is not true at all. The relationship status of an individual does not factor into membership for a fraternity or sorority.

There are no racial or ethnic limitations on joining a Greek organization at UCA.
-
You can try again next year if you are interested. It may be helpful to talk with a trusted friend in the organization or a Student Life staff member about why you were not extended an invitation to join before they take their next line. You can also look into joining another organization.

Every Greek organization at UCA participates in community service and philanthropic activities. If those activities do not meet your personal standards, then it would be best to look at joining a different organization.
-
These terms and anything they represent do not describe what should be happening in NPHC organizations or anything in UCA Greek life.
-
It really depends on the school and organization. Being considered an "old head" usually applies to alumni. This is not an official term, so there is no specific time for a status change.
-
You will need to register for recruitment on the Greek Life website, which can be four at www.uca.edu/gogreek. The current minimum standard to join a fraternity at UCA is a 2.3 GPA and 12 completed college credit hours. It would be best to register for recruitment early in the fall semester. Recruitment dates and events will be posted on the IFC/IGC websites once they are available.
