Hmm - that one's got a lot of chords. I have no idea right now. If I end up re-learning it at some point, I'll let you know!
Thanks -
A couple things I do: sometimes I put paper on the top of the snare. Creates a splat sound. I also sometimes use a bottom snare mic and heavily compress it.
Recently I'm using a lot of saturation plugins like the UA Studer A-800 and Soundtoys Decapitator. Also lots of compression. Compression on everything!
But most of it has to do with the playing and the drums. I hope that helps! -
Oh yeah - honestly you would probably have to come to Seattle for a show, sorry
-
Thanks for posting the questions/sentiments. I did consider playing a house show in Seattle. The main reason I didn't do it was that since I don't perform often, I would have to do a lot of preparation to re-learn the songs properly, and my trip was a last minute thing.
Thanks a lot for expressing your appreciation of my work. I value it. -
Oh hey, now I recognize you from Twitter. Yeah the trip to Seattle was amazing. I was touched by how many people came out to hang with me. It was really a wonderful moment. I do really appreciate the respect of my peers.

Oh, thanks...I don't know...recently there have been some amazing developments in tape emulation (the UA studer 800 and atr-102). I also have been getting into different types of distortion the last couple years. These tricks help to create depth and the illusion of a more vintage sound which is what I'm drawn to due to my age and the music my dad listened to when I was a kid. My tastes developed over a lifetime and some of them have dovetailed with my skills. I'm glad you like it - but I have not found my "sound" to be very lucrative.
-
I'm sorry, I don't understand the question.
-
Sorry, this was streamed live and not recorded.

I think those albums had very low budgets. These small studios were trying to emulate the sounds on the radio, and they were failing! I guess!

The first one is "G.L.O.R.I.A", in reference to the song "Gloria" by Them:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Gloria_(Them_song)
Then the next chorus is:
"Hey Jude" (Beatles)
"Ohio" (CSNY)
"Sympathy for Me" (Stones - Sympathy for the Devil)
"Let it Be" (Beatles) -
I used M-Tron on Plant a Garden, and I think I used Arturia CS-80V on The Modern Age in the bridge. I think that's it!
-
I don't really know. I miss it. I wanted a Foote, and having 3 amazing outboard compressors seemed like overkill. I also was using API EQ's at that time, so I felt like I had too much API going on at the time. I do like the Foote. It's probably better for mastering than the 2500.
The UBK Fatso is just totally amazing. It's the sound of Pain and Leisure. -
I would like to. I have to make the time to do it. Additionally, some of these songs were recorded a couple years ago, and my memory might be foggy. Good idea, though. I'll try to do it.
-
Great catch! I actually did read Return to the Whorl, but somehow did not put it on the list. I just fixed that omission.
I think Gene Wolfe is the greatest living author, and the Book of the Long Sun is my favorite "book" of all time. -
It doesn't bother me. I just don't really have time to do too much that kind of thing. Yes, it's always nice when people respect your opinion.

Blue Laws on vinyl has been discussed, but no concrete plans yet. I don't think The Soft Drugs stuff will get finished. 2 of the Get Back Side B songs got re-recorded for my solo record.
I have thought about pressing an LP with Get Back Side A and In Moderation. We'll see. -
I've been listening to Telicatessen by Rob Sonic. Unfortunately I'm too busy to give feedback on recordings.
-
I don't plan on performing anytime soon.
