As a software engineer I spend most of my day every day reading and writing sets of instructions. This has trained me to follow any recipe to the letter, and to investigate outside influences such as barometric pressure, relative humidity etc when executing said recipes. That being said, if you asked me to cook something without a recipe it would probably be a disaster.
