Woah, woah, woah, buddy. You're supposed to ask me questions here, not make statements.

What does it do, and where is it?

I disagree. Children, while lacking in experiences, are much more programmable. A truly "open-minded" person is someone who can re-evaluate previous ideas. Children are generally more inclined to believe whatever their parents/authority figures tell them.
Though many children are "open-minded" and inquisitive about what they're told, their lack of life experiences must also be factored in. They are very likely to take on the "bias" of the first person who tells them about a subject.
Flexibility comes from one's own will to be flexible. Just because we're older doesn't mean we can't learn new things, or expand our knowledge of older concepts. As long as we have the desire to and keep asking questions, we can always stay ahead of the game. -
That's all right.
I majored in Inherent Competence. I use Mac OS X 10.5.8 and Windows 7. -

The ability to change and grow is self-contained. Some may never accept this and hold steady to one set of beliefs. Others will continue to develop, learn, and grow throughout their entire life. Environment certainly plays a role, but environments are constantly changing. And when one part of that environment changes, it's up to the individual to decide how they will react to it. Experience and personal history may dictate a quick, reflexive, prejudiced response; but the disciplined individual will be able to evaluate the situation through a "wider lens"--so to speak.

I disagree. I think people can change, learn, and grow at all ages of their life. I know MANY people who are well over the age of 18 can hardly qualify as adults, and I know "children" who are quite wise beyond their years. Age is truly relative, and until Alzheimer's sets in, we are only as "old" as we believe ourselves to be.

Well, it's really going to depend on how you define "negative feelings" here. I can acknowledge that they don't understand, but I'd like them to, and no, I don't think they're bad people for not understanding and I don't hate them. But I also don't think the human race can successfully progress if we all just shrug it off and say "its okay that some people can't accept other people."

I'd love to catch up with you if you're indeed an old friend, but in a setting where I know who I'm talking to :)
