As much as it pains me to say, that combo is fantastic. For a beginner, and at the price point you're looking at, the Canon stuff is better.

We usually have an alien bee pointed at the ceiling and then a speed light across from it pointed at the dance floor. And yes, we position ourselves accordingly after they're set up.

We are an LLC. We use ShootQ and QuickBooks for Mac to manage our money. We then send our reports to our accountant who double checks and corrects things as needed.

Yep. That's why some folks like Canon better, as SOOC it's a little warmer and flattering on the skin. If you shoot RAW with the Nikon, you should have no problem warming up the skin (I often push the warmth on the skin tones in Aperture/Lightroom).

Platform Pro with the additional feature to have a forum (which we are currently not using).

We get this question a lot and have definitely considered a workshop, but as of right now we haven't had time to make any plans for one. We always love to help out when we can though - we'll have you over to talk, take you out shooting, answer questions, etc. whenever we have some free time. Just email us! :)

We use Spot Metering 99% of the time. Slap it on the eyes/face, set in manual exposure and fire away.
