5 Scariest Films I've ever seen. What if I told you that all 5 of the scariest movies I have ever seen were documentaries! See, I think you are looking for horror films. But, to be honest, Candyman was the last horror film that ever frightened me when I saw it in the theaers. So, here is my (psuedo) list.
1: The Trailer for the movie CURTAINS: I used to run of the room screaming when I was little, just so I didn't see this trailer. Later I saw the movie and it sucked!
2: Fahrenheit 9/11: Yep, I went there. Fucking terrifying. We sort of elected this guy to be our president. It's a miracle that we aren't all dead after the 8-years he ran this county (into the ground).
3: Bug; It really looked at madness in a way that was totally captivating and terrifyingly real. I got lost inside the movie, it was terribly difficult to watch it play out. A truly terrifying film.
4: Eraserhead: Only because I was 12 when I first saw it, and it was so fucking creepy and bizarre. But, I loved it.
5: The Lottery / Waiting for Superman (tie): I have a child in the public school system. If you do too...this pair of documentaries should keep you up all night....every night! -
Absinthe (but you probably knew this Heather). And not a cheap Faux Absinthe either. I mean, brewed according to strictly traditional methods, 160/180 proof, no sugar added before or after distillation. Prepared in the traditional manner (1 cube of sugar, not flamed, 3 parts water to one part absinthe). I will totally pay $150 a bottle for a great bottle of Absinthe.

Well, my 5 favorites are probably not the same I would recommend to help people. So, I'll take the base question and just give you my Top5:
Make Your Own Damn Movie: Lloyd Kaufman - I know it's Troma and 50% of the book is stupid, but it's full of insight that only someone that had been making films with no studio interference for 40 years can give.
Spike, Mike, Slackers & Dykes: John Pierson - This guy almost single-handedly put the greatest directors of the last 25 years into theaters.
Deathtripping: Jack Sargeant - a brutal look at the No Wave/Transgressive Cinema of the 1980's in the Lower East Side of Manhattan. These people threw away the rule book--after the avant guarde had passed away
A Personal Journey Through American Movies with Martin Scorsese: Martin Scorsese - Ever want to take a history of cinema class taught by one of our greatest living filmmakers. Buy this book and the accompanying 5 hour documentary. Amazing.
Rebel Without a Crew: Robert Rodriguez - A day-by-day account of the 2 years Robert Rodriguez spent conceptualizing, shooting and distributing El Mariachi (including the time he spent locked up as a research test subject--to raise funds for shooting the film). If you're not willing to do what he did to make a film, you probably should be making one. -
That depends on if you're looking for straight men or queer guys.
