      Ashlar: frowns, clears throat:: ::looks around to see if anyone is in earshot:: I do not appreciate such an accusation. Johlan can come across as brash and forward at times but he doesn't "push" me around. You see, we've always been close, even from a very young age. Growing up together, I have great respect for my brother and his ambition. I suppose he can be strong-willed and opinionated, but he's always been like that. That's just Johlan. :: reminiscing, then places a finger to his lips:: Though I pray you, do not repeat a word of this to anyone. Johlan's pride is very sensitive. :: smile::

      I miss my family a great deal and think about them constantly. Wherever they are, I pray that my mate and my eldest son have things well in hand, and my youngest son keeps himself out of trouble - which he is usually disinclined to do. My daughter... she is one of my greatest joys. :: pause:: Not to be able to watch over her or even to know where she is, or any of my family for that matter, causes my heart great pain.

      For your second question, meeting a strange young traveler named Varony in a back alley of the tavern district, in a city I have never been to, just before dawn tops my list for the most ridiculous situation that I've found myself in, to date.

      Ashlar: hmm... hobbies, you ask? I would have to say that we don't have much time for such things any longer. Secret meetings with Sorcerers and keeping ahead of our father's spies keep us very busy. When we did have time however, I'd have to say that I very much enjoyed wine tasting and puzzles of logic, and I also have quite a large collection of model ships that my younger brother and I built throughout the years. ::reminiscing::

      Since Johlan is occupied at the moment, I believe his hobbies are plotting, conspiring, murder.... oh yes... and fashion, dance and painting...don't tell anyone, though.

      (Nashua): I would say that there is nothing that I would choose to represent myself. I am who I am.

      (Varony): In other words, an elf with no appreciation for philosophical metaphor. *frames Nashua with his hands and ponders* I don't know, I can envision your essence being represented by a tree branch tragically felled by strong winds, that has come to rest trapped in a treacherously shifting quagmire of rain-flooded earth...

      (Nashua): Let's just pause a moment there. Are you calling me a "stick in the mud?"

      (Varony): See? You CAN appreciate philosophical metaphor! ^__^

      (Nashua): I am not sure that I am appreciative of your assessment of my character. I am hardly a stick in the mud.

      (Varony): No? Then prove it. *grins*

      (Nashua): Well perhaps at another more convenient time. I have cookies to bake. Would you care to provide assistance?

      (Varony): Cookies are an acceptable form of rain check for your answer to that challenge. I'll be along presently.

      (Varony): As for myself... hm, that IS a complicated question. I'd like to say that I could be described by a story-song out of bardic repertoire, full of rhyme and metaphor and unexpected plot twists, and never sung quite the same way twice. But with a nice tune that gets people up and dancing! *grin and a wink* I'm not sure how I feel about the fact that such songs have decided, written endings... but as my "happy ending" for the moment seems to involve freshly-baked cookies, I can't really complain. Thanks for the question, Eva! *hurries off after Nashua*

      (Ashlar): Studies. Studies. Sometimes it feels that is all I do. If I had to pick a favorite, well perhaps three, I would have to say, Finances, Economics and Advanced Mathematics.

    7. Tamuran

      (Nashua): Such individuals mean as little as the spent leaves of autumn. I would prefer to leave them rotting in the past. ::clears throat:: Forgive me.

      (Nashua): Yes, each possesses a meaning unique unto itself. Some of which will be addressed later in the comic.

      (Varony): I will admit to enjoying a good prank once in awhile... though by far the best use of pranks is in the dispensation of justice! As for one in particular... hm... I'm afraid I can't go into too much detail, lest my DEAR pastry-thieving cousin Lautrius end my existence and then immortalize my death in embarrassing song, but I will say... mouse cookies. Lovely delicious mouse cookies. *nodnod*

      (Varony): I WOULD say his inability to be any fun, ever... but I consider that to be more a challenge than an annoyance. So, after traveling with him for awhile, I would have to say it's his damned stoic bottling of things and refusal to rely on other people for help (aside from the matter of the whole village-disappearing thing, of course). Also, his current mode of transportation is insufferable (you'll see). >.>

      (Nashua): Well Liliy, Varony and I have been traveling with each other for some time. In that time, he has become a very dear friend. So I will be especially judicious in my choice of verbiage.
      The matter I have found somewhat frustrating to my soul at times is his voracious loquacity in the most awkward of timings. Varony has the apparent inability to force the latch closed on his curiosity which is indubitably wired to his tongue. For once something catches his interest, there seems no end to the What do's, Why for's and the Where not's. He also has the incorrigible habit of quipping without the precautionary use of his better judgement, though he is hardly the worst I've known. I have come to realize "better judgement" does exist within him, and am undoubtedly grateful to it on occassion. Though at times it seems to have been switched off. ::sigh:: However, even at his worst, Varony's company is much preferred to others I have met on my journey. So in closing, after a while on the road together, I am beginning to find this trait somewhat more endearing than annoying. Now if the incessant and relentless disrespect for my station and my person would cease I would be elated. ^_^

      (Varony): ...so in translation, I talk too much and ask too many questions? ^_^;
      The 'disrespect,' by the way, is by no means disrespect... it's just encouragement not to take yourself so seriously that you give yourself ulcers. And it will not cease, because sometimes you need it, brother. ^_^

      (Nashua): ^^;;; Varony, Brother, I am more likely to get ulcers from the "unintended intentional disrespect" than from taking myself too seriously. This is where that precautionary use of better judgement would be helpful.

      (Varony): Then I will have to get more creative...
      And I have a great deal of respect for you. But you know that if I were respectfully distant, formal, and polite, you would just assume I was plotting something.

      (Nashua): that is possibily quite true. The plotting part that is... ;)

      (Varony): hm... Well, once when I was little my brothers tried to convince me that wyrm eggs were-- ahh, no, that pesky amnesia is striking again (you DID read the cast page, right?). Pity, that. Sorry!

    13. Tamuran

      (Varony): *I* could see him that sort of situation. Easily.

      (Nashua) ::glares at varony:: Not if you value your life...

      ::addressing original question:: ...no...~_~

      (Varony): But you never know what sort of odd directions the plot might take in the future... anything is possible... ^_~

      (Nashua): Pink hair is NOT in my contract.
