Breathe. Cry. Give in to being awake and read a book. Have a shot of whiskey. Think of people in Iraq, Haiti or the slums of India - in other words, try to get a little perspective on it - at least you and your children are happy, healthy and housed in a safe country. If this doesn't work, ask your partner to get up and give you a break. If you don't have a partner, start again at suggestion one.

Yes - if they are prepared to be disciplined about learning to do it. Just like learning a language or a musical instrument, they have to learn the rules and practice, practice, practice. They have to listen to their teachers - whatever form they come in, and they'll have to read a lot (A LOT) of poetry.

I was definitely very bored earlier, when I did a call-out for formspring questions but since then I listened to Lou Reed's 'transformer' record up real loud, made some Tom Yum soup and two banana cakes and started a really interesting book, so I don't think I'm bored any more. I hope you aren't either, Catharyn.

Aah - yes - most of my socks are stripy and they do make me happy. They remind me to keep a light heart. I used to wear stripy knee socks as a kid and it tickles me that I still do into my late 30s.

Yes! I'm in a hut/shed right on the edge of a river. It is a bright autumnal day. I go out onto the jetty and the sparkle on the water is so intense I can't see anything. It is a happy dream and I always feel peaceful afterwards...maybe it is my personal heaven?
