Hahahah It's a bit awkward to do one on my own style in this case, but maybe someday someone will want to collab with me on one of my apartment ;)

    4. stephanie

Sorry for the delayed reply-- this one just came through oddly enough! Honestly I'd get the Alexa of the PS1. Even if you get bored easily, it's a style that won't fade I don't think so it'll always be ready to go whenever you feel like taking it out. Incidentally the Alexa in any form really, but in patent leopard is still to this day on my lust-have must-have list so i think that could speak to its longevity ;)

Naturally if they're both out of your budget, an inspired by version would def do the trick! Or maybe something that doesn't scream "replica" but suggests the satchel style.

It depends what you're looking for :) I'm a huge fan of eBay-- it's so rife with so many things you can't find in-store. If you're looking for vintage pieces, I'd just dig and dig and put as many things that catch your eye into your "watched list" and then compare and narrow down your options. The thing that eBay works on is the feedback score, and now it's so easy to spot a great seller with the Top Seller flag for instance. there are so many of them too. I wouldn't buy from Anyone who had less than 98% positive feedback. And even at that, in my book everyone should have 100% but going through the reviews usually helps to get a better picture for their score.

If you're shopping for designer, it takes some digging. eBay definitely requires patience and sometimes you can field through hundreds of listing before you even find something that remotely resembles an option worth bidding for. If you're looking for designer and don't want to get scammed (which happens and has happened to me) i'd suggest getting a membership with the purse forum. There, you can find eBay threds for many designer items and amazing TPF subscribers will help you decipher a listing's authenticity based on their purchase of the real thing.

I hear ya on preferring something other than Hunters. Let me know if you find something better and I'll let you know if i spot something awesome as well. I think an OTK or hitting RIGHT at the knee black suede, treaded wedge boot, if i could find a stunning one, would be the ideal! I wouldn't even care if it got ruined. Suede seems pretty resilient to snow.

Ideally, if you can find a pair of black suede boots with at least somewhat of a treaded sole, I'd opt for those in an instant! Im also looking for a pair though so don't have any precise recos. But just a thought to bear in mind if you do go check out the shoe sales happening now. Also, one block east of University on Ste. Catherine, has a pretty decent shoe selection on their women's level. I'd take a look there for sure to check out their options.

    10. stephanie

omgosh I wish i had an amazing rec for boots under $100 that go with everything!! I'd own them lol!

These are pretty cool, if you can track 'em down at the F21 on Ste Catherines. there one at the De la Montagne corner and the University corner: http://canada.forever21.com/Product/Product.aspx?BR=F21&Category=footwr_boots&ProductID=2083316647&VariantID=

A lot of people wear rain boots like Hunters and line them with fleecy socks. You could maybe score a pair on sale. There's a Browns that has most on sale right now. It's on ste catherine at Drummond. And inside Cours Mont Royal, at Ste. Catherine and Peel, north, there's a shoe store on the metro level called Eighty Six, i believe. They might have some options. Rain boots are tot really my cup of tea but at the same time neither is living in leggings and winter-ready boots which has literally been my uniform this year for grey mucky days like these.

Good luck! Hope this helps a little!

LOL! Incidentally I'm fresh off my first ever trainer-led cross fit workout. I have no secrets really. Honestly it's a bit of a not so fun scenario: I have a health issue and it has forced me over time to realize that i need so seriously watch my sugar and fatty foods intake. As well as alcohol ;) socially, it's a blast #justkidding. Basically anything "fun" needs to be limited to a bear minimum and i sort of maintain an overall healthy diet. So if anything has changed, it's probably tightly linked to the diet restructure over the last year or so. And generally speaking, my work out is walking chloe...lol. Though i did work out steadily for a good 3/4 of 2011, also in the name of being healthy overall, but that scenario faded at the start of the fall. I sort of just approach my food intake with one thing in mind: moderation ;)

hey! Great question :) I tend to go overboard when people ask me this lol. so i will try and keep it to a minimum. Naturally it depends on how long you're here for but here are my top things to do at any moment:

      SHOPPING:

James (http://jamesboutique.com/) on Sherbrooke st. LOVE LOVE LOVE this one off boutique. they have the best buyer and sometimes i go there just to lust after things ;) They're great for basics and layering staples. but it's definitely on the pricey side of things so bear that in mind ;) I popped in last week and spotted a few knits by this label, fumblin' foe and i D I E D over them! keep your eyes peeled for them if you go!

Lola & Emily (http://www.lolaandemily.com/) on st.laurent and sherbrooke st. they have the best store layout: it feels like you're shopping in someone's amazing closet! and a great eye for buying key seasonal pieces, some of which will last ages! It can also be on the pricey side of things but it's a fun store to pop into! And there are tons of sales happening now just about everywhere :)

Other haunts are definitely Holt Renfrew for splurges. Not sure if you're Canadian, but it's fun department store to check out if you aren't. Its on Sherbrooke St. at De La Montagne.

Naturally, Zara ;) but it's sale MAYHEM in there right now....which is either amazing or chaos. Depends, lol.

For vintage I like to stick to thrifting. The Salvation Army on Guy and Notre Dame is where i go most often, because it's convenient. but there are other locations that are awesome as well. There's also ERA vintage on Notre Dame which is a gem too but kind of pricey so i tend to avoid it cause you can find gems at thrift stores too. There are a few amazing boutiques and thrift stores along St. Laurent, north of Ave. Des Pins if you wanna take a walk up there and pop into whatever peeks your interest. There's a cool shop called Heritage Old Gold (http://oldgoldboutique.com/contact) up there. i've never bought anything in there, but it's pretty sweet!!
I'm sure i'm forgetting a bunch right now!! but this is a good start i think!

      CAFES/RESTOS

I live near Le Cartet (http://lecartet.com/) and I LOVE the spot!! I go there most weekday mornings for their Tropical Green Tea. It's deelish. so are the croissants.

Griffintown Café (http://griffintowncafe.com/): This spot is casz, amazing vibe with DEELISH eats!

Le Boucan (http://leboucan.com/v1.1/home/index.php): for southern influenced food like pulled porc and the like, this one's a gem too!

I love IceHouse (51 Rue Roy Est) but it's so hard to get a table....it's hard to get a table anywhere awesome in Montreal cause you have to reserve so far in advance! really annoying!!!

If you walk along Mont Royal between St. Denis and Parc ave you'll spot lots of cool spots for a bite to eat. And in the old port, Olive and Gourmando (http://oliveetgourmando.com/) is a great sandwich/bakery stop.

La Banquise (24hr joint) http://www.restolabanquise.com/ supposedly has the best poutine in town if you wanna try that out.

Maison du maccaron (http://lamaisondumacaron.com/) is a fave spot! Two French pastry chefs cooking up a maccaron storm! It's on Mont Royal at De La Roche.

La Croissanterie is also a fave and it's located in a really cute French neighbourhood ;) http://lacroissanteriefigaro.com/

Honestly the list of restso goesssss on! Montreal is quite the foodie hot spot.

ummmm La Buvette chez Simone is awesome for a drink: http://buvettechezsimone.com/ and Le Philemon can be fun for a drink too. It's on St.Paul st. facing the Nelligan hotel. There are bars on Rachel st. east of St. Laurent that are also awesome. If you're in that area (the plateau) by day, just keep and eye out for them.

My fave market is the Jean Talon Market. It's a bit of a trek from the city but it's a farmer's market gem. The other one is Atwater, closer to the city. Metro Lionel Groulx. It's on Atwater and Notre Dame, basically. both are food markets. In the atwater area there are some great decorating store gems and little antique stores.

I hope this helps a little for a great stay while you're here! Have fun! And let me know if you have any more questions!

    14. stephanie

Of course! Can you be a little more specific with your request though so i can help. i.e. Are you looking for (winter skincare) makeup suggestions? Or are you looking to target a particular skin care query with the makeup? I can tell you what I use...let me know what you're looking for in terms of a response :)

Great question :) It definitely helps to express why you want to intern at LOULOU, or wherever you're looking to intern at. And the reasons should be above and beyond, "I love fashion". The editors are already assuming you do if you're showing interest in the magazine. It's good to illustrate how you've read up on the publication, the points you admire within it and maybe even allude to your ambitions within the industry/magazine. It's ideal when a candidate can give their personalized approach to the application. This also helps to distinguish you and your merit for the position from the next applicant.

      Does that help a little?

      Good luck!! :)

    18. stephanie

Ahhhhhh I'm SO SORRY!! I saw this one too late ;) Hopefully you have some internet access while you're away. That said, I'm not even that well versed in the foodie/shopping ways of NYC/BK. We went to Berry Park both times I was there and the rooftop patio is amazing + the food was good and there's no line ;) We wanted to try a few other places (Heath Ledger's resto included) but the lines were too long. We had brunch at a cute resto the last time i was there but it's like pointless to even mention that cause i don't remember the name. I love the little stores on Bedford st in Williamsburg. It's such a cute area for a walk and the lemonade at Ella's is phenom!

I didn't do any shopping--- i find i'm more inclined to spend on things i don't need whenever i'm shopping out of town. Unless i have something specific in mind, which this time i didn't but for sure the Club Monaco, J Crew + Topshop in SoHo are must stops when I do want to go shopping ;) Of course there's also the more amazing designer stores, like Alexander Wang, Miu Miu and Isabel Marant that I would love to be able to spend $$ at, but alas, I avoid those for obvious reasons lol ;)

When I went alone a few fall's ago, I had a post-shopping late lunch at Balthazar and that was delishhh! + so cute, they offer ladies dining solo, champagne on the house ;) & funnily enough one of my FAVEEEEE things to do when i'm in the states, NYC included, is go grocery shopping! They have SO much more selection. For every one item we have, they have 10 options. It's fun. And it's Greek Yoghurt HEAVEN. LOL.

Aside from that BLT steak/BLT Fish comes highly recommended on my list: ate at the one in Scottsdale, Arizona and BY FAR one of the top 5 best meals I've had. & I don't really eat steak and didn't have it that night. And The Spotted Pig is also a cute spot.

Other shopping details: Zara + Barneys. LOVEEEE. Of course ;)

    19. stephanie

      Great question!

      1. Unfortunately at this practical age, lol...good boots and a warm winter coat top the list! I love the Ugg version of Sorel boots and Canada Goose parka for those colddd days. A jacket in a bright colour can be a fun way to diversify the drab feeling the wardrobe becomes in January and February.

2, Sweaters!!! In all shapes, textures and sizes!

      3. A headband or ear muffs for my ears which get soooo cold!

      4. Lip balm and a good face moisturizer + hand cream. Definitely.

      5. Sunglasses for those freezing cold days that are blindingly sunny andddddd scarves!! Bright ones preferably to break up the dark palette most winter wardrobes tend towards.

    20. stephanie

hmmm it's actually more intense somehow! I wake up at around 6am, take chloe for a walk most days. Have tea/breakfast while playing blog/website catch-up. Most days it's the mornings I'm most inspired to blog so that happens usually. Then everything else kicks off with deadlines, a few daily meetings, answering a zillion emails and basically it's just go go go lol, til 7 or 8pm whereafter i usually have some form of plans on the go.

Bed around midnight, maybe another blog post squeezed in in the evening and then it all starts again the next morning. it's a 7 day a week scenario most of the time, but i try to take Sunday off of everything lately cause otherwise you learn quickly that you just.don't.stop. lol.
