Yes, I traveled a lot when I was a teenager. I have visited the British Isles (England, Ireland, Scotland, Wales), Italy, Austria, and Hungary.

That's less a question and more a word. What about unschooling? I've blogged my feelings on it a few times and have even answered a formspring question about it. If there's something specific you'd like to know, fire away!

We're enjoying the PLATO science lessons, which are geared for middle school students. They're all done online. We purchased a subscription through the Homeschool Buyers Co-op, but you can learn more about it here: http://www.studyweb.com/

I think it's a combination of nature and nurture. My parents are awesome, so of course, I inherited some degree of that. I was also raised to aspire to awesomeness, though. They modeled it for me. Also, I drink a lot of coffee, and that helps, too.

Yes. It can be very stressful at times. I go through periods where I don't think much about it, and it's just a job, but something always happens to remind me that it isn't exactly like going to an office every day.

When I see stories about officers being killed or he tells me a story about something that happened to him or another officer, it rekindles that fear. He always tells me I don't have to wait up for him at night, because he can be home anywhere from 11 to 2 (sometimes even later) depending on what's going on at work. I find it almost impossible to go to sleep when he's not home, though, because I have this superstition that the one night I do is the night I'll get a knock at my door and it will be whoever it is who is designated to come and tell me that something horrible has happened to him.

Have I mentioned that I've got some anxiety issues?

But overall, yes, I do worry. I know his job is much safer than plenty of others. He's safer than a logger or deep sea fisherman. He's safer than a lot of soldiers. Still, his job requires him to put on a bullet proof vest every day. He carries two guns at work every day. Someone's a lot more likely to shoot at him than at me. That's scary, a lot of days. I do the best I can to not transmit my worry to him and I know that he's a more cautious and aware officer than most. I just have to trust that he's able to keep himself safe.

I think unschooling is something that isn't really working for most families. Done as I see many families doing it (or at least, as they describe themselves doing it), it's going to result in educational gaps that aren't going to be easily made up. I don't believe a child knows what he needs to learn, and putting that burden on him is unfair.

Some families do lead the kind of enriched and enriching life that lends itself well to unschooling. Most families are not those families.
