I haven't read (or smelled) either one so it really wouldn't be fair to say either stinks worse than the other.

I've actually written three but they haven't gotten published... I guess I'm better at the boy books. ;-)

Yep, I've been to Winnipeg several times, and a few other places, and like them all. Vancouver is one of my favorite cities in the world.

I know that. I am also the sole poop scooper out of the bathtub, where our Charlotte likes to go. Sigh. No, am not enjoying, but it's a small price to pay.

I think I have a composite memory of hanging out with friends on the rocks, swimming in the pool, and going to the teen club.

I hate to put down other books, at least in public (privately, I am not so afraid to do so.) I think the most overhyped youth book recently is... well, I won't name it, but it's an issue-oriented YA title that has a ridiculous premise and has sold a bazillion copies. I thought the narrative was aimless and the characters' behavior unlikely. Most people who know me in person have heard me rail against the book. There are a lot of books that don't get the attention they deserve... it's a tough industry to make some noise in.

Most authors, agents, and editors are women. And most of the people doing the buying are women -- Moms, teachers, and youth librarians. But I bet they are about 1,000,000 more receptive to men joining them than any male-dominated field is to including women. So I wouldn't say it's "dominated," just that the reality is that anything kid related becomes a female-dominated field. If men cared more about kids, they'd teach more and become librarians more and write more books for kids. And probably more boys would read. I think the ball is in our court, as men, to do that.
