All of my life's work has been leading up to this moment!

I haven't read (or smelled) either one so it really wouldn't be fair to say either stinks worse than the other.

I've actually written three but they haven't gotten published... I guess I'm better at the boy books. ;-)
-
The next one I write. It would be nice to already have it done. :-)

Yep, I've been to Winnipeg several times, and a few other places, and like them all. Vancouver is one of my favorite cities in the world.

I don't know if you can say anything about young people that is universally true except that they are young and that they are people. Interesting quote, though.

Absolutely. Let me know if you need a band name or amateurish mandolin player.

Yes, little Spawny should definitely get to see the world like his papa did.

The coffee maker! It's the only one we use (almost) every day.

I know that. I am also the sole poop scooper out of the bathtub, where our Charlotte likes to go. Sigh. No, am not enjoying, but it's a small price to pay.

David Carr and Jack Ross.

I think I have a composite memory of hanging out with friends on the rocks, swimming in the pool, and going to the teen club.

I hate to put down other books, at least in public (privately, I am not so afraid to do so.) I think the most overhyped youth book recently is... well, I won't name it, but it's an issue-oriented YA title that has a ridiculous premise and has sold a bazillion copies. I thought the narrative was aimless and the characters' behavior unlikely. Most people who know me in person have heard me rail against the book. There are a lot of books that don't get the attention they deserve... it's a tough industry to make some noise in.

Most authors, agents, and editors are women. And most of the people doing the buying are women -- Moms, teachers, and youth librarians. But I bet they are about 1,000,000 more receptive to men joining them than any male-dominated field is to including women. So I wouldn't say it's "dominated," just that the reality is that anything kid related becomes a female-dominated field. If men cared more about kids, they'd teach more and become librarians more and write more books for kids. And probably more boys would read. I think the ball is in our court, as men, to do that.
