Yes, Sam Hassas is one of the friends that played a huge roll in getting me into wedding photography. I love that guy and have a ton of respect for him. I just wish he wasn't so busy so we could hang out and eat tacos more often :)

Great question :) First, you can send me an email to scott (at) scottandrewstudio.com or fill out the contact form on my website: www.scottandrewstudio.com to tell me about your shoot. From there, it would be great if you took a look at the work on my blog to get a good idea of what to expect. Then we'll chat a bit either on the phone or in person to nail down the particulars. Then it's shoot time :)

I've always been fascinated with art and took photo in high school. The darkroom drew me in and I was mesmerized. It wasn't until a trip to the Philippines in 2003 that I thought I could really do something with this. Then I got heavily involved in the ski industry and started shooting some skiers and some events. After being suckered in to 2nd shoot a wedding with my friend Sam, the rest is history :)
The transitions (if any) should come from what you like to shoot, what interests you and what you are passionate about. Don't follow the trends of what is "cool" to photograph, set the trends and do what you enjoy.

Workflow has to be very "individualized". I work from my studio, from home at times and even on the road so I have things set up for that type of mobility.
All of my film scans and digital files come into Photomechanic for culling. Then they're sent over to Lightroom for any adjustments and for final naming, organizing, tagging, exporting, etc. The final set is backed up to two hard drives and also on my Zenfolio gallery. Redundancy is your friend :)

I think a good photographer can find good light any time of the day. However, I prefer to photograph in the last two hours of sunlight/twilight. The light is softer and lower giving more of a rim lighting effect on the subject as opposed to casting harsh shadows when high above. If you have to shoot in the middle of the day, find some shade and a good north facing wall.

Nice try. I'm not going to defame the poor Aussie. I'll say this though, undercutting is a huge problem right now (especially for a killer wedding like this one, gorgeous couple, NYC mansion, etc.) and I don't think anyone is really talking about it. People need to be straight up with couples, especially when you know another photographer has given them their pricing. Take the high road, there are enough good, quality weddings out there to go around. The industry will be better/stronger in the long run and you'll be able to go to sleep at night :)

I love this camera for so many reasons. It is super light, compact and it is an autofocus rangefinder with Zeiss glass! How rad is that? My favorite lenses right now are the 28 and 35.
It is a great second camera when I'm shooting medium format body as well. I usually shoot color in the mf and TriX in the G2. The autofocus is not as great as the Canon EOS3 or 1v, but it does pretty well once you figure out where it lacks. This camera is perfect for reception shots on the dancefloor with the little TLA flash and pj moments during the day. Anyhow, for under 1k with Zeiss lenses how can you to wrong? Check the latest shot on my Facebook page of the groom's reaction to his gift, that's all G2!

I'd much rather hang out in the corner but when the spotlight is on, you had better shine :)

Hey Patrick! This is always a tricky questions and it can be quite temperamental as well. Photographically speaking, I can never quite get away from Dick Avedon's work. He had a connection with his clients like no other. Corinne Day is another favorite. Her photos bring such a real, feminine beauty that most others don't translate. I really enjoy Peter Lindbergh as well. A fourth would be Paolo Ventura, just as an honorable mention.

My top three inspirations for what? Photo? Life? Finance? If it was for my photo art/business I would say my clients inspire me to be my best. Boutique retailers inspire me to offer something unique and to truly serve people. The Bible inspires me to have a work ethic yet remain balanced, to be a giver with what I'm given and to be kind to everyone. I hope that helps :)

Oh man, I could really let it fly on this one but I'll hold back a bit. I think first, and foremost, the photographer and videographer have to have a discussion with the bride before the wedding to see who is going to take the lead roll (ie. which one is more important to them). Unless they have unlimited amounts of time on the wedding day, there has to some compromises made by either video or photo.
I cannot tell you how many times I've showed up to shoot a wedding (sometimes solo, or with just an assistant) and have had to "creatively compose" around 3-4 videographers ALL DAY. There is a SIGNIFICANT impact on the quality of the photos for sure.
My favorite video people to work with are unobtrusive, know how to shoot without being in the photographer's line of sight, are able to work alongside the photographer during portraits without killing the flow of portrait time, etc. Folks like Gina from Lola video, Joel with JS Films, Tim from Inifinite Design all do an incredible job and you won't feel like they're over your shoulder all day.
I know this is a long, drawn out answer but it seems like there are more and more videographers trying to make some "epic hollywood" style documentary/production rather than capturing the beauty in a simple, elegant fashion. Here's to seeing this trend diminish in the near future! Cheers :)

Because confidence is a lost trait in our society and most people panic when they see/hear/read it...oops, that's you :) jk, I don't really want to come off that way but sometimes passion is mistaken for "knowitalledness". That being said, I study a lot and have painstakingly formulated my opinions. I'm ever learning and have miles to go, but I believe I'm on the right road.

Google: tilt-shift lens. I used one for a bit and there are certain portrait applications where is can be pretty awesome, but it SO PLAYED OUT right now. On another note, this isn't a "new" discovery by any portrait photographer, no matter who claims it. I have a book of fashion photos where a guy was shooting tilt effect in the 70's with a 4x5 setup. Don't be fooled :)

Thanks. I like those words. I try to really get to know my clients and photograph them "as they are", in real life. People are beautiful and I try to bring that out to the best of my ability. I'm pretty much over the whole contrived, quirky, edgy thing. Let's be creative, but keep it real.

I'm definitely trying my hardest to set myself apart, but in the long run I'm really not concerned with what everyone else is doing and I'm not constantly checking that out. I think it is super important to find your own vision, create your brand around it and then do great work.
Is the market saturated? Totally! Would I recommend wedding photography as a career to anyone, probably not. But if you're doing great work and being kind to people, you'll still go along way.

I'm guessing this is a questions about order forms. I have an online proofing/ordering system that handles everything. If clients are interested in fine art prints, they can order those individually outside of the online option. Zenfolio is a pretty sweet way to go though.

Photo wise or life in general? Photo = showing up without any film. Life, not making it to Heaven.
