I've actually never invested in a display case myself: the good ones are about as expensive as a really good figure would be and I'm too broke for that. I dust my stuff myself. I might bring back Neko-Arc sometime, but I sort of ran out of jokes for her. I have recently bought a very silly new figure set that I intend to use for gag pictures later, though...

Yes. I have several panels there, I just haven't submitted my panelist info to the website yet.

Alright, we need to really think about this one, guys. It's really easy for a guy with my preferences to say "I WANNA PILOT SUPAROBO SUCHNSUCH". But say we actually have to live in the 80s Sunrise show.

I live in Layzner (the robot: I sleep in the cockpit) and I pretty much spend my entire day in pursuit of or being pursued by other machines that want to blow up mine. Life is miserable. And that's not one of the series where you're in the military!

If I had to live in some kind of Gundam-styled robot story it'd have to be Super Robot Wars, which is a universe marked by its absurd robots, hot chicks, and generally sunny worldview. Living as a grunt in SRW would still be kind of a cozy life.

Living in a 70s robot anime would get monotonous but you'd at least have two or three amazing moments in your life before being replaced by a superior model super robot. Also, all your friends would die.

If you want to just take it on a bare quality-of-life level, you can't really refuse living in some crappy wish-fulfillment harem fantasy anime. It's the kind of thing where the protagonists don't ever face serious adversity, ESPECIALLY not real-life trouble. Seriously:

-Rent is almost always taken care of. Cozy living arrangements comparable to "how is this coffee shop employee paying for this place" sitcom setups.
-Work may exist, but if it does it's an afterthought, a lightweight gig, or at the very worst you're part-timing at a bakery with a woman who wants to do everything for you and also marry you.
-Basically everybody you come into contact with is a beautiful woman who wants to do everything for you and also marry you.

      (Reverse genders as necessary, reader)

So basically, I would live in one of those and use all that free time to pursue other projects. It's like hitting a billion-dollar lotto and then figuring out how you're going to spend the rest of your time now that you don't have to worry about self-preservation ever again.

When I do long-form reviews these days they're either for Colony Drop (I'm Dave) or for a paid freelance gig like Otaku USA or ANN. The next issue of OUSA will have a feature of mine. (subscribe! it's like ten bucks now I think!) The longest review (or really the longest piece of any kind) I've ever done for CD will be going up on the site really, really soon.

I am flattered by your love.

Patz you already KNOW I have. I don't watch Rider or sentai with any regularity but I'm going to keep watching this show. It is such a cartoon, and such fun.

If everything goes the way I'd like it to go in the next couple years, I'll be steadily employed and barely making it in a studio apartment in Astoria, and happily doing things like what I'm doing now on the side. For right now, that's enough.

The first thing I did was google this to see if it was from who I thought it was. Of course.

Anyway, I see these kinds of statements from the 2D crowd as sour grapes stuff. It's so rarely "this doesn't do it for me": there's all this projecting. She'd be dumb, she'd be a slut, obnoxious and so on. It has to be qualified with all this bullshit about a theoretical 3D Pig Disgusting woman who's drawn from bad experiences and is about as fictional as the guy's waifu.

I'm not saying shitty people aren't out there or even that they aren't the majority. But if you never take the chance of getting to know another human being (this isn't even necessarily dating), then you'll never get past that majority of shitty people that are out there, and find the very few that you can legitimately connect to.

In conclusion: well, more for me.

I want a really good Priss + Moto Slave set. Yamato's is not impressive.

Runners up: SRX (because it will probably actually get made)
Bitch Commander Panty Vs. Gothic Empress Stocking
      Tyrion Lannister
      MD Geist

Oh, that's easy, I was just talking about it. The film version of Osamu Tezuka's Buddha is horrendous.

Back in the days of series on 8 single discs for $20 (and that was the deepest discount!) I actually bought TWO volumes of Gasaraki, hoping it would go somewhere. Obviously, continuing was out of the question-- Tylor and Bebop were the only shows I ever bought in their entirety on DVD back then, and both were considered cheap at the time-- so I left it at that. A few years later, the anime DVD business hadn't yet crashed but Gasaraki sure had. I grabbed the whole thing for $20 and watched it. Though I hardly remember it anymore (rewatch maybe?) I didn't remember a lot about it aside from the fact that it just goes completely lazy and sputters out at the end. Also, that the cost of rice is seriously a game-changing plot point.

Don't really know what RS aims to do by re-licensing it. For years the whole series sat on shelves at $20, and it's not like there's going to be some kind of spike in interest in the show. But hey, if anybody knows that Gasaraki doesn't move DVDs, it has to be Right Stuf, right? Maybe the license was just that cheap.

I don’t know about STRONGEST, but offhand I think of Tsubasa Nishikiori, a major supporting character in Shin Mazinger. The show is kind of a fanfiction riff on Go Nagai’s Mazinger mythology, and there was never a really important female presence in that story. Sayaka’s strong of will, but she is essentally a damsel in distress: always getting beat up along with her useless lady robot that fired boob missiles.

When Yasuhiro Imagawa had his go on this story, he pulled Tsubasa from other Go Nagai works and inserted her at the core of the Mazinger mythology, made her a major player in formative events. She’s a scientist, a gang leader, and a full-time schemer. She is formidable-- scary even-- but she’s deeply human. Tsubasa absolutely steals every scene in which she appears.

And she only causes one plot hole!

If it was one or three episodes I would say Dancougar, I heard that show was nuts. If it was a whole show I'd probably watch Orange Road.

I only ever saw Avatar in 3D, and while the effect was impressive there, it would be very hard for me to justify that ticket price on anything even close to a regular basis. This is why I think the 3D phase is a dead end for movie studios and tech companies: it's just not cool enough to pony up for.

On one hand, it could be a sign that otaku culture-- which frequently has its own issues with gender, after all-- has collectively decided to be more inclusive to all kinds of fictional characters.

On the other, it'd probably only really be a sign that otaku fetish has so thoroughly taken over anime that a "trap" is just one of many "jerkable elements", if you will, that any anime needs to check off in a list to be successful.

      Either scenario is unlikely.

I sleep in the suburbs. When I want to do something, I get on a bus to the city. When I was a kid, I'd vacation in the country. I'd like to do that again sometime.

I have an idea for a very fancy tournament series that I've been putting off "until I have more money". http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fgtxb9yBggc This would be the hype music.

That'd be the FIRST thing I'd do. I'd spend the rest of my time cooking up other stupid rich-evil-genius ideas and putting them into action.
