YES Of course! One of Kappa Phi Lambda's Pillars is indeed SERVICE! We really emphasize that and each Sister performs many hours of community service each semester. If you love volunteering you will find that Kappas is perfect for you!! Our service chair each semester finds over 100 hours of service opportunities for Sisters to participate in so KPL would definitely be a great resource and channel to volunteer through at Rutgers. The highlight this Spring is Dance Marathon where we pledge to stand for 32 hours straight to raise money for the Embrace Kids Foundation, We volunteer for multiple service events on and off campus as well.

Yes the attendance is a requirement! HOWEVER Sisters are more than willing to work around your situation. For example if you are missing an event, we will set up a lunch or bubble tea session with you to make up for it! If you are willing to 'make up' for rush events with just meeting & eating with a few of us, we are more than willing to do so! Just contact us about it ( :

Just because we are both Asian sororities does NOT mean we are the same. That is like saying, just because Japan and Korea are both Asian countries, they are the same, which is not true.
Anyway, what's different from us and aKDPhi is the fact that we stand for different things, although I believe we both ultimately exist to represent Asian American Women. We cannot speak on behalf of aKDPhi (visit their website or ask one of them to find out more). The KPL sisterhood is based on our three important pillars of Sisterhood, Service and Cultural diversity. We are the largest Asian-interest sorority on campus, but that does not mean we are not close. We are bonded together by Sisterhood filled with love, trust, and loyalty to one another. We provide service to our community, not only by volunteering for many prestigious causes, but also through donating to philanthropies that are close to our hearts by hosting our own events on campus. Lastly our last pillar of cultural diversity represents our focus on promoting and spreading Asian culture and Asian Awareness on campus and to our community. We do this by hosting many cultural events throughout the semesters. (PLUS WE'RE FREAKING AWESOME).
Also both organizations just have different groups of women with different dynamics. If you are deciding between both, it is best that you rush both to find out which group you feel more comfortable. All of us ended up at our respective organizations probably because we were more comfortable with whichever one we chose and felt like that was the Sorority we felt we belonged to. Not because either one was better than the other or anything. -
By not getting to know EVERY sister will not make or break your chances of getting a bid. We understand that there are a lot of sisters and only a short amount of time during rush to get to know everyone on a personal level. But, we do advise you to try to meet and talk to as many sisters as possible, not only for us to get to know you, but for you to get to know us too!

Dues are calculated based on our events and budget for that semester. To answer your question, no. It really is NOT expensive compared to many other sororities because we do not have a house to maintain etc. It is very affordable and payment plans are available if you still cannot manage. But most of our Sisters do not have problems paying because we always keep our dues as low as possible and we hold A LOT of fundraisers to fund our events to keep dues low.

Getting a bid is based on the following requirements:
Attending more than 50% of rush events including a General Interest Meeting, have a cumulative GPA above 2.3 and being a full time Rutgers New Brunswick Student. In addition you must complete an application and undergo an interview. Getting a bid will depend on how well you get to know the Sisters and how well we get to know you! Because the better we know you the more sure we are that you can be a great addition to our wonderful Sisterhood : ) So the first step is definitely coming out to Rush and meet us so we we can meet you : ) Rush is fun & free and there is no obligation so we hope that you come out! We would not say it is HARD or EASY to get a bid, per se. But we will say that we are selective because we want women who will be a valuable addition to our Sorority. We do not have a quota or cut off number of bids we give out. We give out bids to whoever fits our criteria : ) So definitely come check us out!! -
Do not be scared to rush!! All of our Sisters are friendly and approachable. Rush is a really fun time with lots of interesting and free events meant for rushes to get to know Sisters better. It is not meant to be intimidating! Do not let being nervous or scared deter you from coming out. Definitely give Rush a shot and you will see that there is nothing to be scared of if you just be yourself and enjoy yourself :D It is just like meeting a new group of friends =) We definitely hope you decide to come out because we are NOT scary!! =) Come & see for yourself. Trust us, you will have lots of fun!
