waalaikumsalam :) hmm, good question, i'm not really sure :/ i feel like there's two types of motivation: positive and negative.

the positive motivation would be like, wanting Allah to be pleased with me, wanting Allah to forgive me, and for Him to grant me His paradise. besides that, i want to help Allah's religion and to do that, i need to be the best person i can be. like, i want to make a difference in the world, but, i can't do that if people see me as someone who can't even make a difference in my own world. you get what i mean? it's hard, but i don't know, i just feel like...i don't want to be a bystander, basically. i gotta take action.

negative motivation: i don't wanna go to Hell. i don't want my "book" or "records" to be given to my left hand. i do not want to not go to Jannah. i do not want to be held back by my sins... i mean, there's a lot, but i think the main thing that motivates me is that, like, i've been given this amazing opportunity to be closer to Allah. Allah's granted me the hidayah to see what this world really is and what my purpose in life really is. like, i don't want to reject that. like, seriously, after everything EVERYTHING Allah has given me, from even the time before i was born, Allah has given me so much. like, who am i to disobey Him, you know? after everything He's given me. who am i to not be thankful? how arrogant and ignorant and like, kurang ajar would i be you know? Allah's given me so much, and i just can't ignore that. not anymore.

(3:103) ... and ye were on the brink of the pit of fire, and He saved you from it. Thus doth Allah make his signs clear to you: that ye may be guided. (103)
