MAYBE a week. But even that.. like the internet is so much more than just email and tumblr. I could go a week without email and tumblr and IM. I doubt I could also go without Google Maps in that week, because I'd figure "hey, I'm not on the internet, I guess I'll go for a nice drive in the country," and who wants to write to AAA and get those Triptych maps they used to make? I mean, I guess I could just drive.. Wait, does GPS count as the internet? No, right? So I could bring along a TomTom or a Garmin. So yeah, I guess I could go a week. Though it'd be rough to not use Foursquare or Yelp recommendations when I found myself in some unknown town wondering where I should stay or eat. Also, I mean, Google+! Like... there are all these CIRCLES to put people in! Can that really wait a week? And what if Zuck actually launches "something awesome" next week like he said and I was just sitting at some diner in Oregon? How would I proffer my opinion on this new feature without using the Internet? That would be torture. But I guess I could skip one new Facebook feature. I mean, I did manage to buy my iPhone 4 from the Alaska Marine Highway System while docked in Sitka that one time. I could like.. use it once... for just a couple minutes, right?
Then we have all the automated stuff. I'd be off in the sticks, but my HOUSE would still be using the internet. Bitcoins would be generated, and Daily Shows recorded and software updates downloaded and Dropboxes synced, etc. etc. And do Ambient Devices count? I mean they just use cellular data. Is that really the internet? Ditto for the Kindle. I don't know if my house could stop using the internet, even if I could. -

I think it will enjoy a significant advantage if for no other reasons than a) it's not facebook and b) you are allowed to make your groups from the getgo, rather than later, when it's too late, and you don't want to bother going back. Other than that, it's still confusing to me, but I am enjoying the friendfeediness of it a bit. It needs better mobile integration too. I need SMS n stuff. But I am liking it so far.

The last time I thought seriously about this question was in high school, and the answer then was that I really wanted to see Bauhaus' 1979 "In the Flat Field" tour. Two things make me realize what a sad bastard grown up I've become: first, that the last time I thought seriously about this question was 23 years ago or so. And secondly, that my thought now is "oh I should go visit somewhere more important, like the camp david accords or the magna carta." But how boring is that? Seriously. Though actually Waterloo might be kind of interesting, but how much could you really see, and I doubt they'd let some funnily-dressed dude sit on a hillside above the battle with binoculars and an iPhone. Though maybe the iPhone would scare them all off and they'd think it was some sort of sacred object. No, actually, I think the logistics of getting on the guest list for any pivotal moment in history would be sort of a pain, so it'd probably be better to just pick an era, where you could just check out a city or civilization that was interesting to you. Then, of course, you get into some cultural relevancy shit and that's not good. Also a big fat white guy could hardly like plop himself in many of the cultures and times that seem so interesting. They'd probably wig if I showed up in the Indus River Valley, for example, or pre-historic Babylon or Cairo. Plus there's that whole thing where you might die due to the diseases, so let's pick something nice, safe and easy, like Paris in the 20's or New York in the 70's or Turks and Caicos in the 2010's.

Pretty much everywhere, it's gonna be hot. I could watch it a thousand times in a row. I probably have. There is so much going on. It's amazing. I never tire of it.

I've donated to Charity Water far more than other charities, though Doctors Without Borders, Feed the Children, the ACLU and the EFF are regular recipients as well.

electricity comes from oil, mainly. They are one in the same. Right now, you can't give up one without the other.
