I'm on a diet and have been cutting out carbs what can I eat to stop a craving when I'm really hungry between meals
Brendon: Last year I tried out some carb cyclying. Carb cycling is when you have two or three days a week in which you eat a very very small amount of carbs (usually between 50 and 150 g depending on your bodyweight). You then usually have two or three moderate carb days and then two really high carb days. Obviously on the high carb day I didn’t have any cravings what so ever but on the moderate and especially the lows days I was hungry! A few things I would do when I got hungry:
1. Take a scoop of Almond Butter between meals. This was my go to when I was hungry. One scoop usually worked. 1 serving = 90 calories, 9 grams fat, 0.5 grams saturated fat, 5 grams monounsaturated fat, 1.5 grams polyunsaturated fat, 3 grams protein, 4 grams carbohydrates, 0.5 grams fiber, 200 milligrams sodium
2. Chew gym. It made me feel like I was eating something and sometimes the flavors would help keep me from needing to eat sweets.
3. I’d brush my teeth. I mentioning this in my 10 ways to eat less article. Brushing your teeth tells your brain that it’s time to stop eating.
4. I’d chug water. It’d make me feel full. Try it.
Kevin: I don’t know what your dieting situation is like but you most likely do not have to be a complete carbophobe. Timing of your carbohydrates, eating the right kind of carbohydrates and controlling your overall caloric balance will generally prove to be more beneficial than cutting them completely. However, to keep yourself more full in between meals it’s best to try to ingest foods that are high in fiber. Fiberous foods will keep your full longer and are digested more favorably for weight loss than foods that are not. Examples of foods high in fiber include…
Beans
Nuts
Seeds
Raspberries
Apples (with skin)
Pears (with skin)
Broccoli
Peas
Artichokes
These foods will all be favorable towards your weight loss diet and will also help keep you full. In addition to this drinking water and staying hydrated with non-calorie containing beverages like green tea has been shown to aid weight loss and stave off hunger.
