      My best friend? @afoolishwit
Unfortunately we are separated by a great distance. This saddens me. Anyone wanna help me kidnap her?!--on second thought, then we'd both be stuck in the village. Hmm...anyone want to develop a transporter for me so I can kidnap her and we can go on a globe-hopping trip?!

I have many friends and many more acquaintances, but have always been rather perplexed when it comes to the best friend phenomenon. I have what I call "my back-home-bestie" whom I consider a best friend because we have grown up together and known each other for 16-some years if not because we actually have all that much in common anymore. I have a few very close friends, but labeling them "best friends" strikes me a little odd, perhaps for no other reason than most of them are male and the label "best friends" has something of a feminine ring to it. Perhaps why @afoolishwit means so much to me--a girl who also isn't stereotypically girly, and someone who will call me out on my ridiculousness, who has many of the same interests, and a great sense of humor, etc, etc.
I could go on and on about the concept of friendship, but I will spare you all. :)

That's a complex question isn't it? With a complex answer. I'm intrigued by the phraseology: "would" not "will." Curious.
Would you ask me, non-anonymously? Moreover, would you pursue me without a safety net? Hmmm...

Unless you're some anthropomorphized thing, then that's an automatic "no". No talking animals or sentient paper-planes for me! Could you imagine the ceremony?!

"Do you, Raptordactyl, take this penguin...?" I mean, I know he's already dressed for the occasion, but no! And I LOVE penguins. Just not like THAT.

"The Picture of Dorian Gray" by Oscar Wilde.
Though my favorite book of poetry is "The Captain Lands in Paradise" by Sarah Manguso.

Me. I don't want to be anyone else. I might like to spend the day with someone and converse about all sorts of things, but I would never want to wake up as anything other than some form of my very own self.
