When it comes to sequels, patches, or just switching games in general, what are some technique, control, or other gameplay changes that throw you off a bit, or that notably did before? [11]

When buttons for the direct sequel of a game are completely moved around, and cannot be altered. Though, I suppose that applies to almost everything... maybe more combo oriented games are affected.

the wwe games at first when I started used the circle button for grappling move and the x button for strikes. They switched it in 2007 to grappling with the right analog stick and strikes with the square. This actually was more streamlines and allowed for more quick action, but then they changed it to x for grapples for the latest game. I've gotten used to it but I still don't like it as much.

First thing that comes to mind is my switch from Budokai Tenkaichi 3 (PS2) to Ultimate Tenkaichi (360). That's all I have to say.

The right analogue is for the camera, the left analogue is for movement. You can make something which passably bucks this (Monster Hunter for PS2 maybe) but you probably wont.

Also, C to toggle crouch, who ever thought this was a good idea.

It took me a while to get the combo system of Mother 3 down. I wish enemies would go to sleep easier ;_;.

Here are a couple of notable differences I noticed in my history of gaming:

Medievil: Fountains of Rejuvenation can be exhausted until you return to the level. They reset whenever you replay the level.
Medievil II: Once a Fountain of Rejuvenation is exhausted, it stays exhausted for the remainder of the game.

Armored Core Project Phantasma: The WA-FINGER is a spread machine gun that has 3000 ammo.
Armored Core Master of Arena: WA-FINGER gets a beating from the nerf bat by being decreased to 500 ammo.

AC1 to SLAC: KARASAWA is overpowered.
Armored Core Nexus: Nerfed from 50 to 30 ammo, and is not worth the weapon slot.
ACNB and ACLR: Buffed from 30 to 40 ammo, but still somewhat useless compared to other weapons.

BBCT: Hakumen's Tsubaki doesn't cause corner slide.
    BBCS: Hakumen gets new moves.
BBCS2: Hakumen can no longer combo off j.D, Tsubaki causes corner slide, Renka input changed from 214B to 236B.
BBCSEX: Hakumen has improved meter cool-down when using specials, 4C can be charged.

Demon's Souls: Parrying is fairly difficult.
Dark Souls: Crystal Ring shield used to be severely overpowered. Now it is severely nerfed. New movesets added since Demon's Souls, and parrying seems to be easier.

sometimes i forget the little things when switching between two games which play very similarly (sonic unleashed and generations for example) and it can cause me to make mistakes now and then
