What's your opinion on nipple holes/dents a lot of anime characters are often drawn with? Why do you think they appear so often in anime style, even though they're not as common in real life? I noticed that sometimes even 2D males have them. [4]

Anyways, my first guess would be that it makes them stick out more! Like, you know how they draw them intentionally large so that the audience notices them more easily. Or, perhaps they're self-defense mechanisms. In case of attack, stick your chest out onto an enemy and apply as much pressure as possible! Like a porcupine! Ah, wait, porcupines don't really need to apply pressure at all.
