I don't think mental illness is portrayed well anywhere in today's society. We as a nation are hopelessly ignorant about mental illnesses and often rely on stereotypes that couldn't be more wrong. I've never read a fiction YA book about a character with a mental illness but I would love to see if the writing community can do it justice.

No. It's not represented enough and from the books I've read, I don't think it's presented accurately. I'm always looking for books that deal with mental illnesses, so if someone has a recommendation, let me know!

Nope. I think it's vastly under represented.

Yes and no. I've had a lot of experience with mental illness in young people (personally and with family members) and there are some books that touch on the MANY complex aspects of mental issues, while others don't get it right at all. I think it's one of those things that an author needs to be very knowledgeable about (whether from experience or extensive research) to write about it well.

YES! in most of the books I have read, it really touches on some important points.
