What was the deciding factor to move on from WoW? Was it just the right time to do so? (by Goosecomics)

A combination of not having the same amount of time to play and the time I could play not offering the same level of challenge I enjoyed in TBC. That lack of challenge void has been since filled with playing Heroes of Newerth and starting up Magic the Gathering again (which I've played for probably 12 years). So while Cataclysm certainly would have much to offer me, I'm already happy so it just makes the most sense to quit rather than try to juggle multiple activities.

That said in terms of WoW content, I'd say ToC was the breaking point for me when I started spending my free time playing other games instead of pushing to raid more. Doing ToC 4 times every week just wasn't appealing. In general, I don't find the concept of Hard Modes very appealing and would have preferred just tough content all the time ala TBC.

Vigilance: mandatory, really recommended, or optional?

I really recommend it.

I've toyed with the idea of not having it and have intentionally not used it for durations just to see what a vigilance-less spec would be like and I just can't imagine dropping it.

There's too many times where 3% less damage taken is nice for a fellow tank. There's a few fights where having nearly 100% taunt up-time is super strong. And, most importantly, it offers threat reduction to a dps in a world where dpsers are definitely starting to outpace our threat.

Could you do all of the content without it? Absolutely.

Would I frown on anyone that didn't have it in their spec?
Nope.

Will I keep it myself though?
For the time being, yuppers.

It's a weird talent. I can't say that I really like it, but it seems to always offer some weird, new convenience on every raid encounter that makes me keep it around.

Do you like ICC and are you looking forward to defeating the lich king?

Absolutely, I love it! I never realized how important the atomsphere and aesthetics of a raid dungeon were to me until I went through the yo-yo raiding ride of Ulduar to Trial of the Crusade to Icecrown. It's nice to actually have to put some leg work into the place again. I really like how the trash doesn't feel as AOE-ish as the previous content patches too.

The traps are definitely one of the coolest parts for me. They create the rare scenario where you can wipe on trash, laugh about it and actually be better off once you zone back in. Most importantly, they create amazing stories you can share with your fellow guildies and the wow community in general.

I've really liked the challenging and inventive content Icecrown has offered. The first couple guys were a little underwhelming, but once I hit the gunship battle from that point onward I've just been having a blast.

I think like most people, I'm really looking forward to the Lich King fight and desperately trying to avoid the temptation to spoil it for myself. I'm not really the lore type though so as long as visual it's stunning and the fight itself has an epic feel to it... I'll be thrilled with it. (Especially if the 10 man drops the tanking axe!!! Orcs require those you know!)

I read Elitist Jerks and Maintankadin on a occasion, but rarely add my thoughts.
I had left my 2nd guild in 3 months which meant that I had lost a lot of my writing on WoW for the 2nd time. Before tankingtips, I was already sharing my views and making gear lists. The site basically came about because I wanted a place for all my ideas and reference material that I didn't have to worry about losing track of. I also just really enjoyed writing so a blog seemed a natural outlet for all my thoughts on WoW.

What would you do with your time if you didnt play wow?

You know, many years ago, I could have answered that a lot easier, I think. It's tough to say now. I've already cut back my WoW time significantly compared to how much I played in TBC. I'd like to think that I'd play a lot more sports if it weren't for WoW, but honestly, I'd probably just become obsessed with a different Video game. (These days you can find me in the Heroes of Newerth Beta more than I should be!)

I'd most definitely be blogging about something though that's for sure! I actually had a blog before tankingtips and often have ideas for others, but one can only maintain so many. I can safely say that writing is as much a hobby for me as WoW is.

I can't deny that I haven't been curious at times to try it out, but with a mage still stuck at level 73 and any other alt many, many levels below him...
