Make games for other people. Make a game for your best friend, or your parents, or the person you're in love with, but don't make one for yourself. It becomes really difficult to separate your experience playing the game from your experience developing it, so you can never appreciate it the way others can.

So make it for them. If you want to play a game, play a game. Don't make a game because you personally want to play the end result.
