Hows your sonic adventure going? Beat all of them yet?

I stopped playing after I went through Sonic's story in Sonic Adventure. My girlfriend was the one on a Sonic Adventure I'd say though. She went through the Genesis games and all the way up through Sonic Adventure 2 on Dreamcast, but she's taken a break for now and has moved onto Persona 3. I think she'll be busy with that for a while.

Sometime around the spring/summer, we're gonna be playing through all the 3D/modern Sonic games and doing some in-depth write-ups of them starting with Adventure and working down to Colors (because I've already covered Generations on the site, another write-up would feel redundant.) I think we'll call it "Sonic 3D Blast!" Or we'll rip off Pat a bit and just go with "The Fall of Sonic The Hedgehog."

The set will include Adventure 1 & 2, Heroes, Shadow, Sonic '06, Unleashed, and Colors. It's a long-term project, but we figure we'll be able to burn through a few of them this summer should timing work itself out.

If you had unlimited time and resources, what would be your dream project that you would work on? (by heavymetalmage)

I've actually had an entire album written since I was 19, and I've gone back and re-written and re-tooled a lot of it over the years, and swore that one day I'd actually record it. I have it all written down in two notebooks (one the original, the other with various changes I've made over the years) and back when I had a 4-track (it's busted now), I recorded short demos for each song including melodies, guitar parts, and drum lines with some of the basic song structures laid out.

I always envisioned it sounding very industrial, in the vein of Ministry/NIN cut with a bit more metal leaning. That kind of music was always very influential to me in the 90's.

It's something that'd take a shit load of time and money to put together, not to mention I'd have to have a good bit of help in putting together.

"Gotcha bitch!"
"Don't run! You'll just die tired!"
"OH HO HO HOOOOO!"
"I remember you like...the back of my dick."
"Okay, I went to take out my contacts, but I accidentally took off my pants."
"Alright now I just need to...SHIT!"
There's a lot I can relate to in it and the world and characters portrayed in it are very real and believable. A few parts of it hit me pretty hard due to both his clarity and quality of writing as well as just how close to home they hit.
It may not be a tale that a lot of people can relate to 100%, but I think he did a great job of painting a world with words that can really draw one in if they let it.

Any opinions on the original Resident Evil games, or the newer ones for that matter?

I was never the world's biggest Resident Evil fan. I played through all of RE1, 2, Nemesis, and Code Veronica, and at the time they were good games, but I doubt that the clunky controls and fixed camera angle stuff really holds up all that well today in conjunction with "stuff I'm willing to put up with" while playing through games.

I played the absolute shit out of RE4 though. For a solid month it was the only thing I played, and I put 3-5 hours on it every day. Probably the biggest workout my GameCube ever got aside from Phantasy Star Online and Tales of Symphonia. There's not a single thing I left unfinished in that game and it's really one of my favorites of all-time.

I've played a pretty huge chunk of RE5, and it was pretty fun for the most part, but it was around that time that life started getting really busy and I never got around to finishing it. I have it on PS3 and PC, so I really should revisit it again someday. Whenever that'll be.

Having dabbled in a lot of the more recent entries and watched someone else play some others, I can still sense a lot of that old Sega spark of creativity. Adventure got ballsy with storytelling, Heroes utilizes an interesting team focused mechanic, Shadow was an effort to try something different, and Unleashed set into motion the devices that finally got the feel of the games right. The problem is that most of the titles have some hideous problems with execution (the Adventure titles), bad ideas (Unleashed's werehog crap) or are just plain unfinished (2006).

I think what Sega needs to do now is maintain the level of quality and effort they've put into Unleashed, Colors, and Generations. Take time and truly flesh out ideas a bit more so that each game can be unique without breaking what they've got working right now.

Let's Play Shopping with heavymetalmage! I've got a $50 Amazon gift card I'd like to spend. So, what should I buy? (by heavymetalmage)

I'd say a PSN card and just go hog wild on PSN downloads, but lol Amazon doesn't have those anymore to my knowledge. There's lots of good stuff to find on PSN.

So, if we're gonna go the videogame route (and we are, because honestly nothing else is standing out for me right now) I'd say either go with Saints Row: The Third for a super duper fun time in I'M A BADASS LAND or Sonic Generations if you ever liked anything from old or new Sonic. Both are pretty obvious choices.
