Which lenses, bag(s) and tripod do you carry when you travel?

I try to keep it light, but it'll never be as compact as a point and shoot. To Asian and India I took a Canon 17-40, 70-200 f2.8 and a quick lowlight 50 f1.4 because of it's weight. Tripod was never necessary. Avoid taking it as you might only use it only a few times. Take another companion for those situations!

With my trip down to South America I took the 15fisheye, 24L, 50 1.4, 135L. I used the 24L 75% of the time, 15 fisheye 15%, 50 f1.4 5% of the time and 135L 5% of the time.

So glad I brought the fisheye because it was light but also covered all those amazing panoramic photographs. 24L was the bread and butter. If you have a 35mm it'll work just as well.

As for bags. I found the ThinkTank Speed Series to be the best. It's easy to get into, quick to close, thief proof as the flap opens outwards and the added waist belt was great if you need to transfer the weight from the shoulders to the hips.

Hope that helps!

Canon 5D II or 7D?

It all depends on a few factors. What is he looking for. Is price an issue? Video is more flexible on the 7D (5D can't do 60fps), focusing is a lot better on the 7D, image quality & dynamic range is overall much better as well 5DII. They are both great cameras, Full frame sensor with bigger viewfinder or cropped body which accepts EF-S lenses.

Im my situation; I like the full frame, bigger viewfinder over the 7D and I don't need the video so I choose 5DII.

As a photographer, the 5DII is now $1999 in Canada! - a steal price IMO

With patience sometimes the right opportunity can present itself. I sometimes take 2-3 times as long for one shot just so I can get that right moment. Spread your time out and come back a few times.
