Which was your favourite 8-bit or 16-bit gaming magazine?
Probably Super Play. It was a SNES magazine with something of an obsession with Japanese imports, anime and Mario Kart, which made it automatically fantastic, and was a beautiful mag in its own right (especially the unique covers drawn by its art editor, Wil Overton).
The Japan element was particularly interesting because it meant you were constantly seeing things that nobody else was talking about, and when I finally got round to seeing things like 3x3 Eyes, Ranma and Bubblegum Crisis, it was in large part because I'd read about them all those years before and always been curious to find out what the hell they were.
