It's a sad process of elimination. Most other female characters are written badly, and because videogames come from Japan, they are usually written badly by Japanese authors who mostly understand women are things that travel on the subway and occasionally notice when you try to touch their underpants.

There are very few characters I would want to be because I don't want to be a brassy centre of attention. I don't want to be the hot person everyone stares at and who jiggles for the camera. I don't want to feel like I need to push twice as hard to get half as much done and I don't want to feel like I matter less to people because I have a vagina.

It's a sad truth but being female, in my experience, is losing a genetic lottery because there really is no place in the world that doesn't treat you badly, and no amount of inspiring Beyonce marching tunes can actually change it.

Zeroed and going in the other direction fast. I asked around and found that the same holds true for almost everyone I work with. I thought at first it was a side effect of our jobs, but then I spoke to Dorn and Cover a little and what they told me was that they never really accrued much personal debt before getting a job, and since they never bought a big purchase before they had the money for it - citing things like an expensive car or home - they never wound up in debt. I had a lot of debt and I worked it off, but that's a US thing, it seems.

A cipher as well-explored as BJ Blazkowicz. And she's meant to be. We get some very basic outlines but we're meant to be able to run wild within that. Underneath her armour, she's wearing a bikini so she might have a positive view of her own body, but at the same time that might be a requirement of how her armour works. She has some basic instincts to protect something that happens to be young, so you can project some maternal instincts onto her, but it could also be a simple competitive drive against Ridley.

Basically, she's a strange relic of a character in that she's an old character from a time before a character needed to be defined and before all the details of their backstory were documented and distributed and wiki'd up. Unlike Mario, who exists in the same specturm, though, her setting and games still are to be taken seriously, instead of say, going go-karting.
