hi sarah your parents sound like such lovely people <3 how did they meet :)
They are awesome unconventional people who lead by example in accepting people for who they are, warts and all, regardless of what the world says. I hope one day to be as loving and nurturing of my children's idiosyncrasies and quirks and interests and talents no matter how extreme they are. :) Anyway, they met when they were 14 (Dad) and 12 (Mom) through mutual friends at a --I kid you not-- house party and remained good friends until my dad started ~courting the love of his life in his mid-20s when she was working/he was studying. Loves it

I'm African American and was seriously wondering why do Caucasian people tan? I never understood it. Just curious!
Coco Chanel initiated the trend in the 1920s. Earlier, tanned skin was seen as a sign of poverty because it meant someone worked outside in the sun all day. Eventually tanned skin was seen as a sign of wealth because it meant someone had enough leisure time to go to the beach. Over the years, people forgot about WHY they favored tanned skin (to appear wealthy) and nowadays people will probably tell you that they "simply like" the warm, sun-kissed color. I even enjoy looking a few shades darker (maybe because I think darker, bronzer skin looks tighter and thinner.) I think most caucasian people don't know why they like to tan. They simply do because tan skin is a part of the media's commodified beauty standard.

So what'd you get for a levels? :) straight as? And what were the prelim grades you submitted. Idk of they will accept me if I didn't get straight as. :((
haha yep straight As! thankful to God to the nth degree man, srsly all glory to Him. for prelim grades i submitted everything. if you mean specific grades i can't really recall, but i got a C for History hahaha i remember that very clearly.
honestly i don't think they place that much importance on A level grades.. i mean they are important in that they are measured against some form of standard academic barometer, but they will most likely be considered in tandem with other qualifications, work experience, essays, etc, and also, i'd like to think, the heart of the applicant and how badly he or she wants to learn in the college. and how good a fit he/she is overall on all fronts. good luck! just be yourself in your application and whatever happens just is :) -
I'm surprised you didn't include love in that list.
you make it sound like love is distinct from mushrooms, ramen, open fields, good books, bad poetry, flutes, risotto, shrimp, ties, sherlock, time-travelling phonebooths, sweater weather, toddlers, interestingly patterned socks, blankets, whistling, deck chairs, and gravel, and therefore a separable entity, when clearly the inclusion of deck chairs would suggest otherwise.

bitches love deck chairs
they see me loungin'/ they hatin'

Do you find guys are intimidated by your clothes/style? I remember Paloma Faith once saying something about men finding her unapproachable because of her kooky style, do you find it hard to get a guy due to the way you dress?
Whoa.
Surely guys are intimidated by my style. In the same way that girls are. Not going to generalize the entire male gender by saying that they specifically seek out women wearing """provocative""" clothing, although that does happen, and fortunately I tell those kinds of dudes to fuck off dare they attempt eye contact with me. Just because I'm showing skin DOES NOT mean that I respect the idea that men are entitled to my attention via cat calls and car horns.
I don't think it's harder to 'get' a guy due to the way I dress. I find it harder to convince guys to take me seriously, but I think most of the people I've interacted with see me as some bizarre gothic harlot who they assume would be a 'novelty in bed' and subsequently hit on me/treat me as an 'exotic object' but do not attempt to secure platonic/serious romantic relationships with. Fricken disgusting. It's really lame that I can't dress in my own unapproachable way without 1) being pegged as some attention-seeking 'slut' or 2) being seen as a performance-oriented individual without intellectual pursuits.
I think what's problematic about this question is that it places too much importance on "achieving" approval from men. If they find me unapproachable, so what? I shouldn't have to make my style more 'friendly' just so that they'll give me the time of day. It's society and its ridiculous fashion/beauty standards that should shape up. Quit exercisin' your slut-shaming prejudice on me n my sassy outfits!!!!!! (Not directed at you... directed at all people in general.) -
what is the reasoning behind the drawn lower lashes? I think it looks really cool but am just curious as to why you do it :)
Thank you! I just like the way it looks. It's unconventional and has become my signature... the lashes give me a sense of security and identity. And they subtly suggest that I enjoy fucking around with beauty standards. ;)
