what are the top five restaurants in sgp! and where can the best dessert be found?

hm, if money isn't an issue, just for the food:
      1. oso (italian)
      2. tatsuya
      3. lawry's
      4. buko nero
      5. garibaldi

but the five I always go back to:
      1. bistro 103
      2. longbeach, black pepper crab cannot go wrong
      3. hachi tei (japanese)
      4. ayam penyet ria at lucky plaza
      5. banana leaf, fish head curry

cafes are a whole nother question.
and srsly, the hawker centres are just the best- no question. SINGAPORE IS JUST SO AWESOME.

my favourite dessert is the nutella tart from ewf it is all I need.
otherwise, chocolate fondant with ice cream from almost anywhere.
really not much of a dessert person.

hi nat I'm visiting singapore for the first time could you give me some places to go to?

cool welcome to the land of shopping and eating where our national culture is an unrecognizable soupy mix of other cultures and their influences

main attractions are the esplanade, and the merlion outside, looking at marina bay sands (sigh all these touristy things, i don't feel inclined towards, but should mention anyway), chinatown, kampung glam.. my favourite museum in Singapore is 8Q and Singapore Arts Museum (SAM), i like the botanic gardens and have picnics there with my friends, also like and often randomly visit the Night Safari (love going there in the middle of the week & looking at animals nestled in their enclosures) i highly recommend a visit

in terms of shopping—orchard road the main shopping belt which stretches from forum (club 21b which sells acne alexander wang helmut lang etc) & tsumori chisato, then wheelock place for a large Zara (located on level 2, good Japanese food, sun with moon, and good pizza at skinny pizza)
down the road, ion (food basement is good, and my fav frozen yogurt is located there, yami yogurt), then takashimaya, a large department store in ngee ann city, these + paragon are where all the designer stores are located
stores like inhabit at mandarin gallery, blackmarket at orchard central (also along orchard road), haji lane, bugis village, arab street, seah street, and yong siak street in tiong bahru (where my favourite place for coffee is located, 40 hands, and an 'independent' book store Books Actually)

'singaporean food' i like & crave when i am away from home
durian, durian pancakes at takashimaya basement, prata (the best is at Jalan Kayu but that would be far for you to get to), tauhuey (rochor road), bar chor mee (Crawford lane), xiao long bao (din tai fung at paragon or raffles city, crystal jade there's one in taka and at holland village), wan ton mee (fei fei wanton mee store in joo chiat) prawn mee also at joo chiat, bak kut teh (balestier road, been there with parents, googled address for you (Founder Bak Kut Teh Restaurant,347 Balestier Road New Orchid Hotel)

food places i recommend and frequent when i am home:
as mentioned 40 hands, papa palheta, the holland v area where chip bee gardens is located, a street of restaurants like original sin (vegetarian food)/da paolo gastronomia where we take away slices of salmon pizza and dark chocolate valrhona scones, nice to sit there and chill out, holland v also has island creamery which has 'local flavours' like tiger beer, teh tarik; my favourite flavour is nutella/banana
thomson road for a shitload of good food, like a prata house & salted caramel, and rochor tauhuey (not the original store though this is a branch) my friends and i often sit around at thomson area and happily drink tauhuey (soyaobean dessert) and tauhuey ju (cold soya bean milk) you have to try it
awfully chocolate ice cream and banana chocolate cake (cluny court)
dempsey is where a lot of nice restaurants are located, i have been to and recommend ps cafe, house, the rabbit hole (white rabbit), muthu's curry, au petit salut, pamplemousse (best duck confit in singapore) and celebrated my birthday this year at CMPB (good pizza/truffle fries)
other restaurants worth your time & if you want to treat yourself are valentino's, buko nero, tetsuya, iggy's

this is a good website to look at food/make restaurant bookings: http://chope.com.sg

answering this really made me miss home

nat,how do we heal heartbreaks?i keep remembering of my past lover&comparing him to every other guy who might have a possibility with me,that he is always better than them, and i keep thinking he is the 'best one'.i cant seem to move on...what shld i do?

eat your weight in peanut butter

      jk
friend said today 'getting under someone to get over someone new works for me' and 'when i remember the guy i liked most i head to a club and make out with a stranger'

there isn't a set of instructions to help anyone solve heartache, i feel like i just wait it out and do other things & in time with distance i think of the person less, he stops crossing my mind
and that too is a way of getting over a person

you might think he's the only one but as long as you cling on to that idea he will always remain the ideal you can never have
but someone else can fit you in a different way and maybe that different way can be better

have you ever felt left out from a group of friends? should i try prying my way in or should i just leave them?:(

Many, many times. What I came to realize was that those people weren't actually my friends. Even in a group it's important to have a real relationship with each of them, hanging out and speaking regularly doesn't constitute a friendship.

I don't feel like friendships can be forced. If people make you uncomfortable, you should drop them. I guess our inherent need to belong causes us to hang on in fear of losing what we have, even if it's hardly worth keeping. Everyone deserves to have people who they feel completely at ease with.

hi nat. do you think its important to learn to love ourselves and accept ourselves for who we are first, in order to be known as being ready to step into a relationship? what are your thoughts on this?

yes, or at least reach some point in stability, whereby you accept yourself and thus can look in the other, aspects which reflect parts of yourself you like/admire, or a complimentary nature; should develop some form of emotional independence which is (1) good for yourself, prevents to a certain extent heartbreak (2) attractive in and of itself

Hello Nat, could you share your cupcake recipe? Thank you x

Made dark chocolate raspberry cupcakes today

      100g dark chocolate, finely chopped
1 1/2 cups hot brewed coffee
      3 cups sugar
      2 1/2 cups all-purpose flour
1 1/2 cups unsweetened cocoa powder
      2 teaspoons baking soda
      3/4 teaspoon baking powder
      1 1/4 teaspoons salt
3 large eggs, at room temperature
      3/4 cup vegetable oil
      1 1/2 cups buttermilk
      3/4 teaspoon vanilla extract

Put the chopped chocolate in a medium heatproof bowl. Pour the hot coffee over the chocolate and let stand a minute or two, then whisk until the chocolate is melted and the mixture is smooth (it will be quite thin).

Whisk the sugar, flour, cocoa powder, baking soda, baking powder, and salt together in a large bowl. In the bowl of a stand mixer fitted with the paddle attachment, beat the eggs on medium-high speed until slightly thickened and pale yellow. With the mixer on medium-low speed, slowly add the oil, buttermilk, vanilla, and melted chocolate mixture to the eggs, mixing until well blended. Add the dry ingredients, a little at a time, and beat on medium-low speed just until incorporated.

Divide the batter evenly between the prepared cupcake liners, filling each about 3/4-full. Bake 18-20 minutes or until a toothpick inserted in the center comes out clean. Transfer the pans to wire racks and let the cupcakes cool for about 5 minutes before removing them from the pans to the wire racks to cool completely.

I used raspberry jam as a filling for the cupcakes by first warming the jam over a pot to make it more fluid for piping. Then, scooped out a small hole in the center of the cupcake and using a pastry bag with a plain tip, piped the jam in. Finally topped with raspberries :)

what if there were a guy that you really like, but he isn't a christian? either he believes in another religion, or he's agnostic/atheist, and he is reluctant to go to church and convert in the future. what would you do?

Honestly, I don't think I'd even like someone like that, just because I think so long term (like, marriage/kids). He wouldn't appeal to me because I'd want to raise my kids a certain way and he most likely won't understand why I live my life the way I do & why it's so important to me. I'd fancy someone but as you would a childish infatuation--wouldn't commit to saying I 'like' them because declaring that means you're willing to try whereas I'm completely unwilling to compromise.. Why should I?

Assuming he's equally unwilling to compromise, would the relationship even work? I mean, it's not even about 'the Bible tells you not to date a non-Christian'. What's important is that you two are on the same page and function as a single entity (not that you won't have your squabbles) because how can you share a future with him otherwise? To me, that even makes logical sense.

    19. Natalie

(cont'd) Maybe I'm just jaded and have been hurt so many times I don't believe relationships can work for me anymore ): What should I do? I'm so sick of thinking these thoughts to myself, I think myself into sadness.

i'm really sorry this was asked so long ago, i don't know if you're still around to read the answer

feel like it is easy to take on jaded stance and a defensive attitude to prevent being hurt but if you do that though you may feel safe you also close yourself up to new relationships and new people

i'm not saying that one way is better than the other it's for you to decide
i know it's hard to focus on the present but that's what you should, or at least rationally explain to yourself what is it you like now that you don't think will last till marriage

also you never know until you try
and it hurts but one day someone will come along who will be worth the pain
and that's who you stick to

    20. Natalie

hi nat, have you seen 500 days of summer? do you like it? what are your thoughts on it? :)

yes i did, i liked it very much: the non-linear chronological style of cinematography, the music, ikea scenes, drunk karaoke singing; i like Zooey & JGL, chemistry felt tangible/believable, felt like it was an accurate depiction of relationships, also interesting bc in movies the male perspective is never focused on, always a general '</3 we can't be together', finally this is something eve told me, which i agree with, that for every guy, be it their first girl, or someone later in life, there's always a 'summer': the girl that means the world to them, that they will have to get over/let go of
