I use fun foam! Found at any craft store, it comes in colors so you don't have to cover it, takes really well to both tape and spirit gum. I should note--this is a perfect base if you are encrusting the pastie with rhinestones, sequins, etc. If you are looking to cover with fabric, then buckram is your best bet, as it's easier to sew through.

Since you included a link to your you tube series, am I supposed to say you? Cause it's actually gal-pal Alison Janes, with her quirky, charming takes on life

No. I'm not what you call someone who spends a great deal of time in the out of doors. My idea of "roughing it" is no room service.

SuperNova did have a limited comic-con release (and sold out). Look for more burlesque DVDs in 2011 and be sure to get on my e-mail list by e-mailing me pennystarrjr@gmail.com

Well, are you talking nerves or full-on stage fright? If you are truly afraid of being in front of spectators, then maybe live theater isn't for you.
For nerves, the best thing is to be well-rehearsed, so that not matter what happens, you can handle it. I will always be nervous presenting a new act or performing for people I do not want to disappoint. I once found out that the composer of the song I was performing to was in the audience--that was truly nerve wracking--even though I had done the act several times, it has special effect make-up that reacts differently everytime!
I always take a big breath as the em cee begins my intro and try to focus. -
I had no idea! Thanks for the heads up! http://itsachick.com/TVHB.html

Just like what I am doing now: burlesque, making films, designing costumes, but only with a paycheck to allow me a comfortable living and benefits.
-
That I didn't call "bullshit" when other disreputable burlesque producers started taking my ideas and changing them 10% to "make them their own".

I don't like bugs, people in charge of me that are not smarter than I am, the religious right

Not sure if I understand the question: are we talking physically dirty (like a public bathroom in JFK) or figuratively dirty (like the front seat of a 1971 Buick Skylark)?

a gold tooth! Which, if you know me, isn't so weird... I put it with my own extracted wisdom teeth and my husband's baby teeth.

Again, not a question.
I think, sir, that you are projecting, and I have responded to this line of yours enough.
If you want to continue this conversation, you'll have to contact me via Facebook, this anonymous ranking on my profession is getting quite tiresome. I am here to tell you that no matter what you think, as someone who does (versus only watches) your opinion is not always the case. The best criticism is to do the thing better yourself.
C'est tout? -
OK, not quite a question, but here goes: as an artist, I have every right to explore the nature of what I am trying to say on stage; as a performer, I have every duty to make that entertaining. I don't know what part of the world you are in, but I recommend heading the nearest large metropolitan area and see some burlesque by seasoned performers. Those kinds of things are less obvious to the audience when you are seeing performers who have been doing it several years, nay decades.

Working through any "issues" (not just body) and "feed a need for validation" can be found int any performing art, be it comedy, acting, roller derby, or burlesque, so there's no pinning that on just stripteasers
