I'm a night-person. But I also stayed awake all day once.

I think, but don't quote me on that, people always wanted to have some kind of measure of their popularity. Whether it was how many albums you sold, or how many (wo)men you had or how much money you make or how many likes, favs, and whatnot you have. In the end it's all about attention and approval.

Since we met on twitter a lot of people I really enjoyed reading started to adopt this kind of writing that got a lot of favs. With the, again, "success" a lot of them stopped replying and sort of only focused on tose numbers. Of course not all of them were like that and I sure don't know how I would be like in their position.

I think, I don't like it because I'm forced to take part in it. I thought I was jealous of them but I never cared for the number of followers and "favs". I wonder how those sites would be like if you couldn't see how many smiles, likes or whatnot somebody has. Would it all be about quality or would somebody come up with a way to count them and people would measure it that way? (As far as I know "favs" weren't counted either, they were just a way of bookmarking nice tweets.)

At the end of the day it's a human impulse. I have facebook- and +1-buttons on my blog so people can easily share my articles. I don't mind admitting that I like to have reactions on my articles. When I decide to publish something (and at 95% of the time I don't) I like to know what people think. It's kind of paradox since I don't care about how many people shared, liked or faved things I wrote but the effect of it - at least on my blog or other places I publish longer texts - I don't mind.

But I'm not taking part in any competition. I don't care about these numbers and probably that's the best way to avoid this whole concept. Are you a bad person? No, you're not! (: But I'd have rather written a great one-liner than this long text here. Something like "I hope my smile will never be just a number to you".

(And my English, please don't count the grammar mistakes.)
