I think mediocrity is a conditioned response to systemic inequality. I think that we need to fix or reconstitute new institutions in society that encourage innate human creative and unlocks human potential.

I lived in Manila from August 2006 to May 2007. I returned in early November 2008. The reason was simple: I was working on an M.A. in Philippine Studies from the University of the Philippines. I've ceased caring about the degree, but I stuck around because I liked living in Asia. :-)

Serbia because I have such strong emotional associations with the country and the people, and that who I was in Serbia somewhat represented "the best" of me.
I chose Germany because, despite some reservations I may have had in the past, I felt that my experiences there had very direct effects on who I am now.
I chose Mexico and Malaysia because I had a lot of fun there, and I find the food, people, and sense of culture(s) really enjoyable.
I chose the Philippines because, despite my bitching, I've learned the most from living here. -

Mountains! I love a good beach trip every now and then, but a holiday in the mountains is spiritually incomparable.
