Where will you be buying -- NY, LA, MAGIC? Check out the market week dates for your city and plan your buying around that. MAGIC is always first (they debuted spring '12 in August). But keep in mind that you can also do immediates!

That's a good question, I honestly don't see many plus sized lines. I would try doing some research online, find some plus sized designers you like there and then contact them directly.

Check out the bridal fashion week which happens twice per year in NY. There are also tons and tons of bridal magazines and blogs online (trust me, I know, I work for one!), that's the best place to check out industry trends.

There are tons and tons of designers in LA, if you're looking for specific ones I would recommend asking the lines where they're showing. About 75% of what you find in the showrooms and at market will be contemporary designers, which means higher prices. The more affordable designers are there, it's just a matter of searching them out and pre planning.

I've had a few problems with damaged items or items where the zipper stuck. Usually you need to process damages in 10 days but some brands like Voom are great about extending that. You really need a reason to send things back, either a technical error or POSSIBLY a fit error (there was a time when I had fitting issues with an entire line and I wish I had inquired about sending those items back). And you can always change or cancel orders 7 days after your showroom visit.

You can fax in an order form or email it (because you have to sign for it) but I would recommend going to the showroom or having a road rep come by, just because things look a lot different in person. Sizing is the tricky part, if you or someone you know is sample size (2 or 4 usually) they can always try them on in the showroom. Otherwise you do have to trust the rep, and they're not always right -- Ive had trouble with this a couple of times in the past.

Check out my section on trade shows: http://oohlaluxe.net/index.php/category/fashion-trade-show/ They're the best place to start. You can visit showrooms during market week as well. And to find their email addresses first look on their official websites, on the contact page, and look for showroom or sales rep contacts. If you don't see any you can contact (call or email) corporate with a wholesale inquiry or even their PR to find out who represents them. Hope that helps!

Hard to say -- I would need to know your business plans, the type of lines you're looking about, store size, etc. Think about how many lines you want, how many pieces you want from each line, and even how many sizes you want to stock. Most of my pieces average $65-$130 at wholesale, and I'm the lower end of contemporary. Hopefully that helps!

Hi! You can open in the Spring/Summer, however the markets are in October and January (at least here in California). In the industry, we have a thing called "market week" which is a window of 4-5 days that buyers can see the new lines. Market week happens about 5x per year in New York and LA and twice in Las Vegas. In LA at the California Market Center there's also market tuesdays. If you need to go on a different day, it doesn't hurt to ask the reps if you can stop by, but all samples might not be available and a lot of reps travel. Linesheets aren't really something you order, you just ask for them through a sales rep. You can ask for them any time, but every designer is different so they may or may not be ready for the season of your choosing.

I guess you could buy the building, but most people just rent/lease the space. Keep in mind that you'll want to be open for more than just 1 month, so you'll probably want to plan 6-12 months of rent. And then you'll need to redecorate the space and buy fixtures, furniture. You'll need a computer system, security, insurance, etc. And don't forget merchandise, you'll want to make sure you have enough to buy for more than just 1 season most likely, and merchandise is going to take a HUGE chunk of that amount.
