Thank you! I would say anything you submit to a publication should be absent of distraction -- a submission should be proofread, use proper punctuation and grammar, be void of crazy fonts or colors, etc. A unique voice and angle will get anyone's attention.

For years I kept a blog for myself, then other people started reading it and giving me feedback and pushing me to become better, then I took some of those pieces and edited them for submission and just, sent them to websites I thought might publish them. That was a little over a year ago.
