Hi! I was really enjoying Formspring and loved being able to give advice or answer questions when I could, but I have decided to take a break from it for a few reasons:
-I originally started it to serve as a reference bank of questions & answers I commonly get from readers or other creatives. I wanted many people to be able to benefit from some of the same questions that lots of people ask. However, Formspring seems to be buggy and the "more" button at the bottom doesn't always work which basically negated the over 250 questions I answered previously that are not showing on the front page.
      - It got to be pretty overwhelming with the number of questions I kept getting daily. Some were easy and fun to answer, but some took more time and I ended up with far too many in my "inbox". I didn't want to make it seem like I was ignoring some questions when I just hadn't been able to get to them yet. And some questions were too complex to answer briefly here and are better addressed in more detail (like in a book) or on a case per case basis.
      - A lot of the tips I want to be able to give are being covered in my book with Meg Ilasco, Creative, Inc. coming out in September. Since we cover a lot of various business tips, it became to hard to give advice without overlapping with the book. And, I am under contract to save all the juicy stuff for the book.

Finally, please know that I thoroughly enjoyed the questions I have already answered and hope it helped you in whatever journey you're on. I found myself inspired by your questions too. I may decide to pick this back up in the Fall, so we'll see!

I did link the questions to my Facebook fan page, so for those of you who can't read all the past ones through Formspring (buggy Formspring!), you can find them here:

Thanks for the suggestions! We'd love to live in Santa Monica or Venice closer to the water, but based on proximity to my husband's job..they're too far for his commute. I know LA traffic can get bad so we need to pick an area that we love that's also not too far for him! We're still scoping out neighborhoods and figuring out what's the best fit from those closer to his work!

i'd like to try to stick to the rule of "if i haven't worn it in a year, get rid of it" but that doesn't always work for me. when it comes down time to weeding things out, i'll always think i still want it and then another year will pass without me getting much use of it. so now what i do is for any item i'm thinking about purging, i try to wear the item for a few hours. sometimes something i forget about then becomes a daily staple, or sometimes it makes me realize i don't need it anymore or have outgrown it. i also try and reward myself by getting one new thing for every batch of clothing i can clear out.

Hey April! I'm all about taking fun classes to bring out your hidden creative self. Even though you work a full-time job that's unrelated to some of these things you may be interested in, doesn't mean that you can't explore them. Sure, there's not a ton of time left once you get home from a long day of work. But taking classes will force you to commit to whatever you sign up for. There are lots of Continuing Ed classes at local art schools that are usually once a week for 10 weeks (usually weeknights or a weekend afternoon). The best part about the offerings is that there are usually some classes you wouldn't expect..like bookmaking or Japanese calligraphy or other cool things that you can try out!

DwellStudio also has a super cute (and more affordable) collection at Target. Overall, I LOVE Target for reasonably priced finds. Their new Liberty of London collection has some fun floral duvet sets, too. The Thomas O'Brien collection is great for more neutral (non-girly) stuff. Go to Target!

i think motivation comes from within and from the goals you set for yourself that you are trying to achieve. i'm pretty type A, so every time i accomplish something on my list, i'm onto the next thing. sure, there are rough days...so let yourself pout or be down for a bit. but you're not doing yourself any good to stay in a negative place or down moment. you have to push past it and move on from the slumps in order to accomplish what you want.

i don't think you HAVE to since the nature of it is sort of anonymous. but if they really answer your question in detail and cared enough to put thought into it, you can certainly show your appreciation with a simple thanks email!

attention to detail is really important to me. so when choosing vendors or others to work with, i make sure that they are capable of work at the level that i expect. therefore when looking for a web programmer, you should be able to see samples of other sites they have programmed that work and function properly. you may have to pay more for that quality of work, but it's worth saving up to work with someone better who can ensure that level of quality you deserve.
