Dunno what else to say to this but YES! http://youtu.be/3ig32r3Z3VE (djpretzel verifies it's yes at PAX Prime 2011 at 1:04)

That said, @LarryOji is OUTRAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAGED! :-D

Our official version of Guile's theme for Super Street Fighter II Turbo HD Remix also goes with everything too! In fact, the entire (free) soundtrack does! http://ocremix.org/hdremix/ (Capcom = awesome)

Easy answer for me: the SNES. The Sega Dreamcast would be 2nd.

      DragonAvenger (@DeiaVengen)
SNES was the first and favorite. PS2 would probably be the second choice.

      CHz
It's hard for me to argue in favor of one platform over another, because I can think of so many reasons why I love each and every one of them. And a bunch of reasons why I hate them too. (Except the Virtual Boy. No one can hate the Virtual Boy.)

But for nostalgia, nothing tops the Nintendo 64. We had systems in the house before – I remember the NES and Genesis pretty fondly – but the N64 was the first one that I owned myself. Plus, for a period of years, it was the one system that everyone owned. We all knew the games, played the games, and could throw down in the games whenever we were together. Mario Kart 64, Super Smash Bros., GoldenEye 007, good damn times.

      OA (@OceansAndrew)
      SNES, then probably DS

      @The_Orichalcon
No nostalgia for me. PS3 is hands-down the best system I've used, specifically because it's so versatile. I use it more as a media player than a gaming system. But the games are always sharp and enjoyable on it. That said, there's always room for improvement.

Each handheld Nintendo generation is great and an improvement as well, the DS currently leading the pack.

      Fishy (@CainMcCormack)
Toughy. I think I'd have to go N64. So many incredible multi-player games. Me any my brother still play Mario Tennis/Mario Kart/Smash Bros/DKR etc even 13 years on (and it still works mind, PS3 lasted 7 months!). It also had some of the last great platformers like Mario 64 and Banjo Kazooie.

      @DeiaVengen (DragonAvenger)
Being primarily a vocalist, most of my inspiration comes from the lyrics that I write for a piece. There is a little bit more to it though; I also try to take inspiration from the actual game itself, and what is happening during the track. For example, my Besaid Island remix was based mostly on the scenery of Besaid, as well as the focus on the love between the two characters. This also led me to ask for a more pop-ish style of the song from my friend.

      @The_Orichalcon
Originally, I wanted to be the first person to bring obscure games onto OCR, like Oddworld, Sins of a Solar Empire, Final Doom, etc. My inspiration was basically to have Dave go "TO brings our first remix from this obscure game!"

But now that I realise hardly anybody listens to remixes from obscure games, my inspiration is basically what will get a lot of feedback.

      @CainMcCormack (Fishy)
If by "inspiration" you mean "drum parts," then from Dream Theater.

      Palpable (@Flickerfall)
Often comes from what I'm listening to at the time. Many times it happens when I'm listening to a non-VGM song and think, "huh, what would [insert name of game] sound like if done in this style?"

      OA (@OceansAndrew):
More often than not, i'll take a source song and redo it in a way that I personally would like to have an mp3 of. The reason I haven't done a lot of Final Fantasy 6 or Chrono Trigger tracks (even though they are my favorites) is that so many artists have already done such an amazing job on them, I already have some great stuff to listen to. For my other favorite songs though, no one has done anything on them, so it's up to me.

    4. OverClocked ReMix

An entire album? Unfortunately, I doubt it, but I'd love to see it happen. We're more likely to see an individual mix come down the pike than an album being developed. That said, at least we have a ton of Mother 2 mixes, many of them thanks to Joe Cam's album project, Bound Together. http://ocremix.org/game/51/earthbound-snes/remixes

    5. OverClocked ReMix

Q1 2012, Q2 at the latest, we'd hope! Mega Man X series fans won't be disappointed by what everyone's come up with! :-)

It took quite a long while, but @bLiNdTrance & Ashleigh Coryell finally came through in May of this year :-) http://ocremix.org/remix/OCR02242/ - @MasashiHamauzu is an amazing composer, and "Lightning's Theme" is one of the most beautiful compositions I've ever heard. We'd love more arrangements from FF13, though @OceansAndrew has a cool SaGa Frontier 2 mix that has yet to see the light of day, so either way there will be some more Hamauzu tributes soon. - @LarryOji

    8. OverClocked ReMix

Out of all of them, probably Super Metroid's "Brinstar - Red Soil Wetland Area." That said, the community surprises us ALL THE TIME with fresh, creative interpretations of themes that you would assume are creatively tapped out. We're always impressed by what great OC ReMixers come up with for Mega Man 2's "Dr. Wily Stage 1," Final Fantasy VI's "Terra," Chrono Trigger "Schala's Theme" and so on. For anyone looking to see which VGM songs have the most OC ReMixes, the list is here: http://ocremix.org/songs/?&offset=0&sort=mixcountdesc

At least we have 27 mixes that use FF8 themes. http://ocremix.org/game/13/final-fantasy-viii-ps1/remixes - As far as an album, probably not to be honest, though you never know. There are a lot of great Final Fantasy soundtracks that don't get enough attention compared to FF6 and FF7 in the West, but it almost goes without saying that we'll have more FF8 mixes in the future, just not a huge influx of FF8 stuff at once.

    10. OverClocked ReMix

As amazing as Masashi Hamauzu is (and he is), there are no plans for an FF13 album. The only FF series album we have planned is an FF9 album in the works for much later down the line.

@anosou (Another Soundscape): Armored Core: Nexus, Bayonetta, Digital Devil Saga: Avatar Tuner, Disgaea-series, Jade Cocoon, Omega Five, Rez, Senko no Ronde, Shadow Hearts: Covenant, Tekken 5, Tekken Tag Tournament, Voodoo Vince

OA: No surprises here: Chrono Trigger, Final Fantasy 4, Final Fantasy 6, Xenogears, Chrono Cross, Castlevania: Symphony of the Night

Palpable: Few surprises here: Chrono Trigger, Super Mario RPG, DKC 1-3, Mega Man 1-6, Lemmings 3D, Super Monkey Ball 1-2

Fishy: Shadow of the Colossus, TJ&E1+2, FF1-12, Fallout 3 (not really an ost), MGS1-3

DragonAvenger: I have lots of favorites. The ones that come to mind right now are Final Fantasy Crystal Chronicles, Final Fantasy Tactics, Chrono Cross, Chrono Trigger, Shadow of the Colossus, and Final Fantasy VI.

      The Orichalcon:
      Neverhood/Skullmonkeys = Fun Music
Doom = Metal covers, nostalgia for me.
Final Fantasy soundtracks/Chrono Trigger = nostalgia and great music
Unreal Tournament = Good background music. Love looping those old tracks.
Bioshock = cinematic music that fits the game perfectly.

DarkeSword: Genesis Sonic games, Ristar, Chrono Trigger, Shadow of the Colossus, Treasure Hunter G and tons more

Liontamer: I'm playing Tim Follin's Lemmings soundtrack from the PSP in my car a LOT. I can get away with that because my lady loves the soundtrack as well. Super Mario Bros. 3, Donkey Kong Country 1, GoldenEye 007, the entire Street Fighter II series (including our work on HD Remix, of course), Streets of Rage 1 and 2, Street Fighter III: 3rd Strike, and several more I can't think of yet.

    16. OverClocked ReMix

@LarryOji (Liontamer): Slipknot. Is that a genre?

Another Soundscape: "Music" should be broad enough.

OA: Larry, you are thinking of early 2000's American metalcore. I prefer melodic rock music.

      Liontamer : I'm joking. I'm not a fan.

      OA: i agree with you.

      Palpable: Crabcore

Another Soundscape: Because you have crabs.

Fishy: Forbidden metal. (...Probably prog rock)

Vig: Crabcake? (oshit I just got a great idea for a mashup)

      The Orichalcon: Ska Metal Blues

      DarkeSword: Melodic jazz, dance, trance

Liontamer: OK, honestly speaking, I'm a fan of Britpop like Coldplay, Travis, The Verve, Starsailor and Keane, but I don't have any major genre preferences. I grew up with lots of different music, which translates to me being really open-minded to the wide variety of genres in the OC ReMix submissions.

    17. OverClocked ReMix

@LarryOji (Liontamer): "Why doesn't [X] have more ReMixes?" (and the variant "Why does [X] have so many mixes, when [Y] doesn't?" all points to the same basic principle. ReMixers arrange what they want, and they just haven't been compelled to arrange Kingdom Hearts as much as other soundtracks.

A lot of people believe OCR's responsible for what games are ReMixed, but we don't have any say/influence on what gets submitted. Submissions from more popular games are more likely to be sent in, but they aren't more likely to be approved simply because of the game they're from.

The best thing we can recommend is to get on your high horse to convince people that Kingdom Hearts has awesome tracks and that they need ReMixes, preferably by posting YouTube video links in our Requests forum so that it's easy to listen to the music. http://ocremix.org/forums/forumdisplay.php?f=10

Our ReMixer profiles are also pretty detailed, so look up the artist page of anyone you may particularly want to hear a mix from, and send them a request for a Kingdom Hearts mix.

For anyone interested, we have 5 ReMixes from the KH series so far:

    18. OverClocked ReMix
    19. OverClocked ReMix

@anosou (Another Soundscape): I have been known to whip out the stopwatch now and then. Generally I only need 1-2 listens to see if it's gonna be a NO or if it's possibly a YES. If it's possibly a YES, more listening is due.

OA: Anywhere from 1 listen to up to 20.

Palpable: Yeah, really depends. Probably half the time it's twice, once to get a sense of the song, once to do any analysis. Sometimes certain parts of songs get listened to multiple times. On the super-close calls, I've listened to some subs upwards of 20 times. And I will stopwatch, but I don't rest my vote on it.

Vig: The closer a submission is to the bar, the more times I listen to it. Really good or pretty bad subs might get one listen, most get 2 or 3, the tough calls might get 5 to 7. I don't know how you guys can listen to a sub 20 or more times; after about 7 listens I'm really not learning anything new about the track. This doesn't really happen these days, but back in the day when less stuff got the form letter, there were plenty of submissions where it wasn't even necessary to hear the whole thing once, and in fact doing so could be a serious risk to your sanity.

DragonAvenger: I'm still working that out, actually. I tend to have to listen to tracks a lot, but that's partly because I'll get distracted and have to start over. Otherwise I need a couple listens to check out the arrangement, and probably a few more to break down production. The closer it is to the bar, the more listens I'll need.

The Orichalcon: 1 listen suffices for bad NOs and good YESes. A couple of listens for those middle mixes or the ones where it's difficult to hear the source. I've had a few mixes where I've had to listen several times, over different days to make a decision. Rarely though. One example was Koelsch's Jurassic Park remix.

DarkeSword: Depends on the sub, but usually once or twice through.

Liontamer: No one else does the stopwatch stuff on a regular basis to count source usage, though generally speaking they usually go "yeah, that sounds about right" when seeing whether what I heard lines up with what they heard. Everyone else covered it pretty well. The easy calls are generally 2 or 3 listens for me, just to hit all the points I want to make. Anything tougher to decide or that requires more in-depth comments can honestly be anywhere from 5-20 listens. As far as determing how something is a YES or NO, we've basically internalized the standards and try to apply them as best as we can. Generally, the arrangement/interpretation is the main thing being analyzed; production and execution are smaller things that determine whether the arrangement ideas have been fully realized.

    20. OverClocked ReMix

@djpretzel: Aztec Adventure for the @SEGA Master System. Of course, I plan to mix this myself, but I'd love for someone to beat me to it...

      Fishy: ToeJam & Earl - either 1 or 2, don't care - they're both funkay.

OA: I defy anyone to remix "The Liberation of Gracemeria."

Another Soundscape: "Shining" from Armored Core Nexus by the always amazing Kota Hoshino.

DarkeSword: "Prelude to the Demon King," from Live A Live.

CHz: "Half Time" from Football Fury for the SNES.
      http://snesmusic.org/v2/profile.php?selected=929&profile=set
I'd be fine with any track from the game, just to get the greatest title screen of all time on the OCR front page, but that track in particular is the pinnacle of human achievement.

      Vig: Skyblazer!!!!~

Liontamer: Game: I have several choices like Let's Tap, LocoRoco, Border Down and Street Fighter Alpha 3, but Katamari Damacy is my first choice. It's a crime we don't have a ReMix from that.
Song: I don't have a first choice, but I'd love to hear bLiNd take on Junkie XL's "Snow Park NZ" from SSX Blur. It's pretty adaptable to his style. "Snow Park LV" anyone?
