For you guys Playstation Plus isn't really worth it but for the average consumer do you think it's a good service? This month they gave away stuff like Trine 2, Rock of Ages, Awesomenauts, Castlevania SOTN and more. It's kind of crazy in my opinion.
Yeah, they're always putting a ton of neat benefits into that subscription. I don't check it as often as I should, but it's kind of rad.

Hopefully as we move away from console ports and get unique games on Vita Sony will allow direct footage. I mean Nintendo blows up 3DS games at E3 and people don't seem to mind, right?
The dual-screened nature of the 3DS makes it all look different enough to sidestep comparisons. Meanwhile, Capcom showed SFXT running side-by-side a little while back to demonstrate the way the cross-platform multiplayer looked and on that full-sized TV the Vita version looked like craaaaaaaaap when compared to PS3 version.
Which, obviously, it should. The PS3 is a full-sized thing with power! The Vita is a handheld that we should all be impressed by due to its relative power and decent price point. But humans are humans. When they put the two side-by-side and put the Vita version up on a TV, all I could think was "wow, that really looks like shit."
Even without the TV, it's sort of the inherent flaw in the way Sony does handhelds. It's technically amazing that the handheld can get that close to a proper console game... but why would I pay nearly-as-much for an inferior-looking version of a game? As someone who doesn't really have a lifestyle that supports significant on-the-road gaming time, I wouldn't. So I don't. -
Do you think it's worth picking up a Vita if only because I never owned a PSP?
Depends on how likely you are to buy Vita games. I bet you could find games on UMD for real cheap these days. Certainly cheaper than the PlayStation Store prices for PSP games, anyway.

Why is it that Nintendo and Sony make it so difficult to capture handheld video anyway?
They're handhelds. Getting them to spit video out to a TV isn't really a primary function of the devices, it's kind of a nice-to-have thing that lets them get footage for marketing/PR purposes and allows developers to work comfortably without having to hunch over a little-ass screen for 12 hours a day.
