Yep. Just make sure when you go through the Import Properties dialog box, that you set the Color Model to 32bit Color (this is located on the Image Adjust tab).
-
From the Main Menu: Window -> Beginner's Assistant
-
Nope. That's something that can't be done in Manga Studio.
-
That's something you'll need to contact Smith Micro's technical support about.

Make sure that the layer that you're working on is at least a 2-bit (Black & White) Layer. If it's a 1-bit layer, there will be no white to select from.
You can change the layer type by selecting Layer -> Change Layer Type from the Main Menu. Then, simply select "Black and White (2 bits)" from the Color Model dropdown list. -
When you start using the text tool, you should see a Properties dialog box appear. Click the Settings button (located below the Text Settings dropdown list. The dropdown list is set to "Standard" by default).
This will open a new dialog box that will allow you to define the font, spacing, and other options for your text. You can set these to the "Standard" style, or you can create a new, separate, style to work from. -
1) From the Materials Palette, select (single click) the tone you wish to use. You should notice on the Tools Palette that a sample of the tone is visible below the Black/White/Clear color boxes.
2) Select the Layer you wish to lay the tone down on.
3) Select the drawing tool you wish to use.
4) On the Tools Palette, select the tone sample.
5) Start drawing away. You should see the tone appear on the page. -
Unfortunately, I don't have time at present to do an in-depth tutorial on how to use the Symmetry tool.
The short answer is it can't be done in Manga Studio Debut. In Manga Studio EX,
- Create a new Ruler Layer (Main Menu: Layer -> New Layer, and then select "Ruler Layer" from the Layer Type dropdown list).
- Create a new Line Symmetry Ruler (Main Menu: Ruler -> New Symmetry Ruler -> Line Symmetry).
- Select a drawing layer to work on, and start sketching. The Symmetry ruler will mirror what you draw to the other side. -
A list comparing the features of Manga Studio Debut and EX are located here: http://manga.smithmicro.com/comparison.html
Suffice it to say, I equate the difference between the two to the difference between a regular calculator, and a scientific or graphical calculator. Both can get you the same answer; the scientific calculator provides features that make it easier to get to that result. -
You can click & drag the background layer so that it is below the art layer.
From the Layers Palette, select the layer your background is on. Then, using your mouse or stylus, drag the layer down until it is below the layer you wish to use for your art.
Conversely, you can add a new layer above the background layer (Main Menu: Layer -> New Layer), and draw your art on that layer. -
Assuming you inked on a separate layer from your sketch layer, simply delete the sketch layer (Main Menu: Layer -> Delete Layer).
If you inked on the same layer as your sketch, you're going to have to simply erase the sketch lines manually. -
Yep. You can use the Alt key on your keyboard to select a color, much like you can in Photoshop.

If you're having an issue where the program is freezing up, you'll need to contact Smith Micro's technical support. That's not something the program is supposed to do.

I use a Wacom Cintiq and a Wacom Intuos 4.
If you're looking for a first tablet, I'd suggest purchasing a Wacom Bamboo. It's the most inexpensive of the Wacom tablets. Therefore, it's a good tablet to find out whether you like drawing on a tablet or not. If you like it, you can upgrade to an Intuos; if not, you're not out a lot of money.
A Cintiq gives you the ability to draw right on the screen. However, they aren't cheap. So, if you'd like something like that, you'll need to save up some cash. -
Make sure that you were using a Color (32-Bit) layer, as that is the only layer you can color on.
When you create a new layer, and the New Layer dialog box appears, select Color (32-bit) from the Color Type drop down list. -
I haven't used either of those packs, so I'm not sure how the installation works for them. I'd suggest contacting Smith Micro's Technical Support for help with this issue.
-
That is something you'll need to contact Smith Micro's Technical Support for. Outside of that, all I can suggest is uninstalling and re-installing the program.
-
Nope. That is something Manga Studio cannot do.
-
Uninstalling Manga Studio from your computer is going to depend on which OS you are using. Since uninstalling the program is no different than other programs, please check to see how you would normally uninstall a program on your operating system.

Yes and no.
I am working on a new guide book, though it won't be through the Dummies brand. It should be available as an eBook sometime in 2012.
