I like to use the gradient method, where the darkest colour is near the lash line and the eyeshadows get lighter and lighter as you move up towards your brow highlight.

I also like to use dark and light colours to create more depth to my fairly "flat" hooded eyes. I use a highlight-type colour in the middle of my lid, and a darker colour on the inner/outer 1/3rd of the lid and at the top of the eye socket.

These techniques really help me enhance my hooded eye features.
