It took me forever to start a personal blog after I got a lookbook too! Honestly, I don't have many followers at all - I think a lot more people read my blog than comment on it/follow it because of lookbook, which is understandable, because I'm horrible at updating it haha. But it helps with collaborations because most companies want you to have both a personal blog and other platforms, such as lookbook.
As far as advice goes - blog for yourself, not for other people. Take good quality photos and comment on lots of other blogs if you want to get a lot of comments and fans (something I always fail to do), but enjoy what you are doing rather than simply creating a blog to gain followers. Write/post about what you want and stay true to yourself and you'll love blogging no matter how many followers you have! -
I did start lookbook first. It took me a few months to start getting followers. Make sure your photos are fairly good quality so that people can see your outfits really well. :)

I go to a tiny liberal arts school in New York that no one has heard of

it varies. some days I'm feeling unusually healthy and eat mostly fruit and vegetables, other days I eat a million candy bars, i have a naturally fast metabolism so I can basically eat whatever I want without gaining too much weight, which I realize is incredibly lucky in this day and age. I'm sorry, I have no dieting tips or anything.

most of my shoes don't have heels because I'm so tall and don't feel comfortable wearing heels everywhere - my favorite non-heeled shoes are black loafers, oxfords and combat boots.

I also love dr. martens but I'm too poor to afford them -
I don't - I just shower or wet it every morning and let it do what it wants

I don't have one particular store that I shop at in NY, but I love to wander around East Village and Williamsburg. There are so many tiny vintage boutiques, and there are always a ton of incredibly stylish people around both neighborhoods - so easy to get inspired!
Beacon's Closet is an awesome buy/sell/trade store in brooklyn and it has some great finds. I've only been there a few times though. According to their website they have a few other locations in the city as well, but I think the one in Williamsburg is the best known.
I also LOVE going to flea markets in the city. There are usually a ton on the weekends. I stumbled across one of the best known vintage flea markets during my first semester in the city - hell's kitchen flea market - on 39th street between 9th and 10th ave. It was so amazing. I haven't gone back since then, but I really want to. -
I have! it's www.megan-lois.blogspot.com and my tumblr is www.themostcomfortableplace.tumblr.com

I get a lot of inspiration from lookbook.nu, but also just from everyday life. from old photographs, nature... living in New York City I get a lot of inspiration from every day people as well.

well I generally don't spend too much time thinking about it, because then I end up getting overwhelmed and choosing something that I don't really like.
It's usually a natural thing (and kind of has to be, because I have either work or class before 8am every morning, not giving me much time to get ready). -
I am going to tomorrow actually!
My lovely roommate and I are starting a joint blog as soon as I get back to New York and we're very excited about it. :)
