ok wait if you're the same anon then you said that last time - Shinji and Kaji????? why would he trade roles with Kaji??? they aren't even the same age or under the same influences or have even remotely the same interests, it wouldn't make any sense. I really don't know why you keep saying Kaji. unless you mean Touji, in which case I think that might be interesting?? but Shinji and Touji aren't really all that different and in any case it would turn out the same in the end anyway. it wouldn't be Eva otherwise.
Anno didn't make Eva to entertain people or pander to the mecha-anime sensibilities, it was something he created for himself to be about depression and accepting yourself and choosing to live. the only way it could be a cool robot anime that wasn't depressing or "annoying" or "too deep" would be if Anno wasn't a part of it. and then it'd just be another cool robot anime about robots and monsters rather than relationships and awful people dealing with awful shit. -
cont'd: "cares for that. (some of which stems from Freud, whom i'm not a big fan of. XD) I also found it very hard to sympathize with the character Shinji. It seemed like the writers were trying to create a 14y/o boy w/o actually knowing what a 14y/o boy is like. i don't know any 14y/o boy who wouldn't jump at the chance to pilot a giant mech. almost every thought/decision he makes is the exact opposite of what i had in mind. don't think too many people with his mindset would survive a battlefield of angels/aliens. this lack of realism made the series alittle unengaging. i personally thought the series would have been 10x better if ryoji and shinji traded roles and ryoji was the third child instead. just try to imagine that for a second. but i did love the opening and closing credit songs. I'm rewatching it again now because of you. XD"
First of all I can't speak for the entire fandom (that being said, neither can you!) but personally, I really enjoy the deeper meanings/psychological & religious concepts/reading-between-the-lines shit that Eva is FUCKING NECK-DEEP IN, and I know for a fact a lot of my friends who also like Eva feel the same way. I feel like that's what makes it so engaging, since it makes you research and think and discuss it. I've been following Eva for years, other friends of mine have been following it even longer, ever since it first came out (~14 years), and we're all STILL learning new things and getting new content, and I don't know many other series' that do that! I honestly can't think of one that does, at least not to this extent. They're basically remaking the series with the Rebuild movies, and yet it's somehow brand new again.
Considering all the shit that goes down in the series, I think Shinji is incredibly realistic and a good representation of a 14 year old in that situation. Truly "relating to him" is difficult, in fact it's basically impossible, since no one on this earth has been in his situation (as in LOL EVAS DON'T EXIST AND ANGELS ARE RIPPING THE EARTH APART). That being said, I still think they did a really good job with his character, his decisions, his reactions, and how he deals with other characters with what he's given. I agree with you, though, that I'm pretty sure any normal 14 year old would literally stick his dick in a toaster to be able to pilot a giant robot, but Shinji isn't normal, and that is made very clear. He has SEVERE (DADDY) ISSUES, and I'm pretty certain he is clinically depressed, so when everyone is harping on him about getting into this GIANT TERRIFYING MAN-BEAST with armor on it, it's really not surprising that he freaks out and says no. Not to mention the fact that his dad, who bailed on him after his mother died IN FRONT OF HIM, is suddenly interested in using him for this wacky bullshit?? Shinji basically just tells him to fuck off. I think that makes perfect sense: this depressed, hormonal, lonely teenager is being a depressed, hormonal, lonely teenager.
Also I assume by "Ryoji" you mean Touji (because otherwise you're talking about Kaji, and that doesn't make any sense lmao), in which case YES, him being 3rd Child would have been pretty hilarious, though it wouldn't be even close to the same series.
The music is really amazing!! I love pretty much every song in Eva: all the OPs and EDs for the series and for the Rebuilds, in End of Eva, basically everything. I'm glad you're rewatching it! You don't have to love it but hopefully you can see it in a newer light with what I've said lmao XD -
aw man I haven't read the Bebop manga!! I have the series collection so I watch it all the time and it never fails to give me SHARP AND JAGGED FEELINGS, so maybe I should read it...
I had already read the latest chapter of Gantz before I dove into rereading Eva, so you missed out lmao. Got another 3 weeks or so until we get any more! but dang I really love Gantz!! I loved it a lot more back when it was only at ch.250 or so, I speed-read that shit in a week and it was thrilling as fuck. Currently it's kind of dipped down into "why in the hell am I still even reading this" territory.... I feel like the story and characters have gone a little too wacky, but I still really like it!
Honest question: why do you think Eva is overrated? I know it gets A LOT of hype, but considering how long it's been around, along with the depth of character/story and how much content it has, I think all the attention it gets is deserved. I know it's just my personal opinion on whether or not the story is "good," but honestly even with its flaws or gimmicks I think it's one of the best out there. It takes a lot of work to reeeeaaally get into Eva, but that's why it's so good! -
~~tooling~~
I think for most of yesterday I was re-reading the Evangelion manga so if I had my webcam on, all you'd see is me holding my face and being an emotional wreck...... if that's your jam then cool! -
I just woke up soooo I'm in bed tooling around on the internet and answering formspring questions.
-
No, but hilariously enough I might have to do that if I ever finally make Chie's Persona from P4! Except it'd be a motorcycle helmet, but that's pretty close.
-
Aaahh thanks a lot!! v(´▽`v)
I bought two wigs from ebay (a random seller, I just looked for a color/style that I liked) and sewed the wefts from one into the other. I really love the color, and the fibers are really amazing, it's only gotten a few bad tangles! However I'm not very happy with the fact that I sewed two whole wigs together and it's really not all that thick :| Honestly to get the thickness I would like for Asuka, I'd need to sew another 2 of those wigs into that sucker. Alternatively, sewing together two fantasysheep wigs would probably make it more than thick enough! I think they have a very similar color of orange too. -
oh yes. even though TATTO and Tatu are spelled and pronounced completely different, that is me. definitely.

I'm not terrible with kids, but I'm not great with them. I can deal with a kid and it's especially cute when they look up to you like you're a magnificent radical being! But fuck babies dude. I don't find babies to be all that adorable most of the time, and thinking about wrecking my body trying to push a 7lb squishy screaming creature out of me does NOT SOUND FUN AT ALL NOT EVEN CLOSE.
I think I have that basic maternal neediness thing sometimes but it's only temporary and for people/kids I already like. Also I have cats and I already hate cleaning up cat poop LET ALONE HUMAN BABY POOP FDHJHSGKHS
I've always thought about adopting, though! Like I said I'm moderately okay with kids, so I'd most likely adopt an "out of disgusting pooping baby stage" child. -
HAHAHA well I guess that's very kind of you, but maaaaannn I really do not want kids!
-

I can listen to the Wake up! Wake up! Wake up! album all day erryday lmao. -
The only Japanese bands/artists that I listened to in highschool that I still listen to pretty religiously today are the pillows and hide. I also really like Gorillaz , Daft Punk, and the OST for the game Nier. I still have a pretty huge collection of music (mostly visual kei and a lot of the visual kei sub categories) but Im not really in the loop much anymore.
Some of those bands, like MUCC and Plastic Tree, grew with me and don't sound retarded like a lot of the other bands do, but I just haven't found time to stick them on my iPod yet lol. -
Tora from alice nine. I dont listen to them (Or to jrock/visual kei) very much anymore, but I was pretty heavily into that scene in highschool. Alice nine was my favorite band for a good chunk of that time, and Tora was REALLY AMAZING to me lmao, so they were really influential. side note: Tatsurou from MUCC was another big influence, him/his name (more specifially his old stage ne TATTOO) was partly where my cosplay handle came from. MUCC and alice nine were a big part of my life *A*
-
LMAO FUCK honestly I might end up hating myself for doing that since so many people ALREADY misspell my handle as "tatto" and/or think it means tattoo. motherfuckers. BUT as for ideas, they're all pretty nerdy so that's why I'm kinda hesitant lol.
1. plain old "NERV" on my wrist because holy shit evangelion herpaderp
2. I don't have ref but there's a super cute tiger icon that serves kinda like the logo for a band member (I know ugghh band logo but it's still sentimental so whatever), maybe on my back or wrist
3. I'm not sure which piece in particular but nearly ANY of Jinyoung Shin's art, probably on my back. her shit is GORGEOUS. she's a big art inspiration of mine *A*
4. and I've always wanted a gnarly spinal tattoo but I'm pretty sure I'd wimp out from the pain lmao.
and #2 and #3 I've wanted for about ~6 years now, and #1 is just simple as fuck so that's how I'm justifying them haha. fuck man I wrote a book for this answer. -
No, but I want some! I have a few tattoo ideas but I'm hesitant to get them. I'm picky about design and I don't want a fuckwit tattoo artist either. I want to be 100% certain of what I want and where I want to put them. ALSO they're pricey as fuck and I have better things I should spend my money on.

hey asshole dont tell me what to do
