I'm afraid I'm not involved in that! Even if I was, I couldn't give you a sneak peek. :x You'll have to wait until Survival!

I think it was "Live Free or Die Hard" - 2007. If I remember correctly, I even used a ticket I'd /won/. Wow. I guess that goes to show you just how highly I think of Regal Cinemas.

I like to wander off into the woods for a while when I need some quiet time to myself. There's nothing else quite so peaceful!

I'd go get both of my personal vehicles fixed, and then go pay off my mortgage. Boring stuff, I know.

I keep having these weird Oregon Trail-inspired dreams. Damn you, game, damn you...

AWKWARD ANSWER: I think it was my junior year of high school. My best friend's boyfriend bought me chocolates and a dozen roses, and then made the mistake of admitting that he bought hers as an afterthought. I say that was a mistake because she was standing /right there/. He said he'd bought me another gift, too, but I never found out what it was; she was absolutely furious at him and really laid into him, and didn't really want him talking to me anymore. Looking back on it, I realize that was probably the beginning of the end of our friendship. (It was a pretty stupid thing to hold against me, imo, as it wasn't my fault in the least.) /end ramble

Anna Maria's in Beloit, Wisconsin. If you're ever in the area, be sure to stop in there for the best calzones, gnocci, and deep-fried cheese curd you've ever had in your life!

Yes! Mostly home-improvement plans for the summer, but there are a few others tucked up my sleeve. :)

I am so tired! I haven't been getting much sleep lately and it's just that time of year when no amount of sleep is really enough, anyway. Alaskan winters always put me into hibernation mode.

I was disappointed in Utah's famed "mountains," too, so I think it may be a matter of my own perspective, haha. As for how to learn about other places to consider moving to, start by making a list of things you want in your new city and things you don't want. Narrow it down to geographic areas that meet those criteria, then narrow down the city by asking around - places like Livejournal and Craigslist have communities for most states and major cities, so you can learn info straight from the horses' mouths. It's a great way to find out what apartments to avoid, areas of town you might not want to live in, the best cafe to buy your coffee... really, just all the little things that residents pick up on. Be sure to check out the city/county/state websites, and websites for the chamber of commerce for your possible future new hometowns. If any don't meet your criteria, cross them off the list. You'll narrow it down, and if it comes down to just two or three that looks perfect -- go with your gut and see where the wind takes you. :)

I've heard great things about both states! I haven't been to Colorado but I enjoyed my visit to Montana quite a bit. The area I was in was pretty flat but it was lovely and full of open spaces. Of course, visiting doesn't always give you the full picture so I have no idea what it's like to actually live there!

You can call me Emm and I'm always open to making new friends! I'm not on Facebook but I'm mbif on Twitter. I definitely understand feeling the need to "get away" -- I've done a lot of moving around, myself. Alaska's just a MAJOR move and not one to be undertaken lightly. You are quite correct that depression can be problematic up here, though through careful management (medication, SAD lights, etc.) it's definitely possible to live in the state with it. Most people I know up here suffer from it to some degree or another due to various reasons. It sounds like you've made up your mind not to venture north, though. Have you considered a different change of venue? Alaska may not be a good fit but there are a lot of other great places to live that you might fall in love with!

Any part of the weekend (from late Friday through Sunday) is good, imo!

Hi, Mike, and I'm sorry to hear about your situation. Your full question asked about housing, hobbies, the job market, and single women in Alaska. These things can vary pretty broadly depending on what you're looking for and which area of the state you live in (it's a huge state!) Housing is usually readily available if you're buying, but the rental market is more or less in a permanent state of suck due to the high military population and lack of on-base housing (so there are a lot more people looking for apartments than there are decent apartments for rent, and beware the slumlords!) The prices for renting and buying are very high compared with many areas of the country, and you'll find that's in line with the rest of the cost of living. It's very expensive up here, and while pay rates are generally pretty good, they often don't balance out with the cost of goods and services. Jobwise, there are always places hiring, but it may not always be what you're looking for, so I recommend checking out the online job listings for the city you're considering moving to to get a better idea of what's available in general.) There's lots to do, but the activities again vary by region and what you're interested in (hunting and fishing is plentiful, but if you're into live opera, AK may not be for you.) The ratio of men to women favors women VERY strongly; at one point, Money magazine listed Fairbanks, AK in the top 10 places for women to meet men based on ratio alone (1 woman for every 5 men at the time it was printed.) Life up here can be very tough, so many people moving up here from the Lower 48 prefer to move to Anchorage, which is the largest city with the most modern conveniences and a comparatively mild climate (cooler summers and warmer winters). Anchorage is more like British Columbia or the Seattle area than the rest of Alaska in terms of both the climate and culture and you'll find a lot of "imports" from the Lower 48 there.

In Alaska, it's definitely the summertime. In the Lower 48, I'd have to say it's autumn.
-
It's actually moose droppings and used car parts. Polar bears are issued free with each vacation package, though, so live the dream!
