      shooting my first wedding this weekend, my job is to capture the groom and groomsmen getting ready, any tips or advice?

      you try to use natural lighting for shooting, let's say for a whole wedding day, when would you actually use flash? and do you use AWB or change it accordingly?

      indoors only. i sometimes change my WB according to K.

      not really a book type of person. tons of inspiration online. :)

      how do you divvy up behind the scenes duties between you and your wife? editing, packaging, emails/phone calls, financial duties, etc.

      i try to do as much as possible.

      she covers basic:
      shooting
      editing (number class of images)
      albums
      print orders
      accounting
      features/submissions
      etc.

      how long does it take to receive wedding pics? also can a bridal party member order photos without going through bridal couple?

      wedding pics depends. 2-8 weeks. depends on how busy we are.

      Your latest wedding shots are awesome. I love that your photos aren't just the same as everyone else's, but are still beautiful. Just wondering how you converted to b&w. Beautiful conversion. Also, what did you use for your blur?

      b&w conversion is a mixture of Red Leaf Actions & Totally Rad Actions.

      not sure what the blur means.

      Have you ever had to shoot a funeral? what advice can you give one that has a funeral shoot assignment?

      never shot a funeral. if i got one, i would just document it while it was happening.

      upon meeting a new client, what are some questions you ask to understand their style and personality to help you set up the shoot?

      normal stuff. i don't believe in the hype of "perfect client for me". everyone is unique and i love finding that stuff out.

      lately i've been doing only phone consultations. and it's been working awesome.

      Do you have any tricks to getting a family with 2 or more kids to look at you?

      maybe a pez dispenser on the camera flash hot shoe.

      to me, i just like kids being kids. interacting more than cheesing.

      What lens do you use for your far away shots with the subject at the bottom of the frame?

      Widest we use is 24 1.4L.

      When I practiced with backlighting, my Canon 5d Mark ii wouldn't take the shot if the setting sun was actually visible. I had to have my subject block the sun. Is there a way to get the sun in the pic, or is it too bright for the camera?

      Well, since the exposure of the sun is different than the couple's, it won't work without a flash on the couple. Flash to get both background and couple the same. We don't flash at all. Also depends on the time of the day. Sunset the sun is less bright so exposure is different.

      One stop over or under?

      Depends on the camera, light, and setting. Backlit, over. Everything else. Try to get a little over. Preference. :)

      Overexpose. Practice. Light is my best friend. I love working with it. :)

      What would you say was your best marketing strategy when you were first getting started that really helped launch you? many thanks in advance.

      We accepted any work. Gotta work the hustle. We also started in a different time than now. Not sure the same things would work today. Stay positive and good things will happen.
