Valentine's Day was meant to be observed in honor of Saint Valentine, or actually, the more than one Christian martyrs with the same name. However; I have always associated the beginning of Valentine's Day as we know it—a day of romance—with Geoffrey Chaucer, whom you may be familiar with as the author of The Canterbury Tales, which you either have read or will read at some point in your academic career. Most people read The Canterbury Tales in high school in modernized prose, but the tales themselves were mostly written in verse, and should you have to read them (or one of them) in college, you'll end up reading the middle English verse form.
      But anyway...

Chaucer wrote a poem titled "Parlement of Foules" in honor of King Richard II's engagement to his first wife. There is a line in the poem that goes, "For this was Saint Valentine's Day, when every bird cometh there to choose his mate." That is, of course, a more modern translation of the line, but the point is, is that this was the first reference of Saint Valentine's Day as being a romance holiday.

Trust is, above all, the most important thing to me. In my opinion, trust is a necessary foundation for all relationships, but especially romantic relationships. If I cannot trust my significant other, then there is little chance of progression.

I finally just finished writing a ghazal for my creative writing class, and now I have to finish my working thesis statement for my Intro. to Fiction and Drama class.

Not at all. People always tell me I look just like my mother, and that I got my thick, "luxurious" hair from my dad, haha.

As of now I have to say Taylor Lautner, Ian Somerhalder, and Joseph Morgan.

I think she's a wonderful person, but my tolerance for her music lessens each time I hear it. I'm also becoming increasingly annoyed by the way she dresses.

Yes. And oddly enough, I almost walked right into one that was dangling from my living room's ceiling fan about an hour ago.

I'm sort of lacking in the friendship department. But the strange thing with me is that I have major trust issues with people, but at the same time, I want to believe the best in people. And thus, I often make the mistake of trusting people whom I should not.

I don't really keep track of movies that I don't like, but the first one that comes to mind is The Curious Case of Benjamin Button. Oh, and Mamma Mia! was pretty bad, in my opinion.

I think he gets a lot of unnecessary hate. He seems like a good kid, and he's living out his dream. I feel as though envy is the primary force behind the hate he receives.

I never understood why people hate celebrities in the first place. It's a waste of energy if you ask me.

I have a few ideas that I've been tinkering with, but I'm not rushing into getting tons of ink. I don't want too many, just a few.

My first tattoo (the one that I will for sure be getting this year) is the word "always", which I want to get behind my right ear. Small and simple. The Harry Potter series is my favorite. Jo Rowling created such a magnificent world filled with wonderful characters. The series is so important to me and really shaped a part of who I am. I constantly read the books over and over again, and I still react as though it's the first time I'm reading them.

I don't want to spoil anything for anyone who hasn't read the book or seen the movie. So I'll just say that, in response to the question "After all this time?", my favorite character, Severus Snape, replies with the word "always". It comes from my favorite chapter of the book, and I get chills when I read it. So I have a font picked out that will have the tail of the 'y' shaped like a lightening bolt. Severus also says (in the same chapter) "it's real for us", which I would also like to get on my foot along with an image that I have yet to decide on.

On my left forearm, I want to get "Just remember nothing is ever so bad
that it could not be worse", which are lyrics from a song called "Live, Love, Redeux" by In Fear and Faith. I want it in white ink, though. I want this tattoo for me, as a reminder that those words are true. I think white ink tattoos are beautiful, and they tend to show up well on lighter skin, which I have.

I also planned on getting "beat but I'm not broken" on my left foot. It's a line from a Red Jumpsuit Apparatus song called "Misery Loves Its Company". I first met the guys in RJA when I was fourteen, and they've treated me so well over the years that have gone by since. They've treated me like family, and in fact, I've made a second family through them. I've met people all over the country because of these guys, and I'm closer to a lot of them than I have been anyone else. The line that I want tattooed is not just in honor of the friends and family I have in the band and their fanbase, but it's also a sort of personal motto. I've been through a lot, but I refuse to let it break me.

There are a few other ideas I have, but those are the ones I've been planning the longest. Everything I plan on getting has a personal meaning to me, and I may not be able to explain the meanings very well, but they are certainly there.

I don't think it's a strange question at all. Piercings for me were never a means to alleviate pain, though. I've always been open about the fact that I struggled with self mutilation when I was younger. Cutting for me was about the control and the ability to watch the healing process. When you physically hurt yourself, you can see those injuries heal. In a sick way, it provided me with a sense a hope that the inner demons and pain I struggled with would fade in time as well, leaving nothing but a blemish in its wake.

I think for some people, body modification is an internal pain reliever. It's less dangerous than cutting for the most part, though. And I say "less dangerous" because piercings and tattoos can be dangerous when they're not done by a professional. I knew a girl in high school (she was my best friend, actually) who used to pierce people during lunch with safety pins. She also gave a girl a tattoo using a needle and pen ink. I feel like the kids who do that are more likely to use piercings and tattoos as an alleviation technique.

I only had my eyebrow, labret, and nose done (I only have the latter now), and I had them all done by a professional.

I live in a city called Parma, which is Cleveland's largest suburb. It's not a terrible place, but it is seriously lacking in entertainment opportunities. So taking that into account, along with the fact that I'm a rather introverted person, I tend to do a lot of reading and writing. I go bowling every Saturday, and I see my friends when I can.

I started college in 2009, and my first semester overlapped my final semester of high school. I take classes in the fall, spring, and summer, so I haven't had a summer vacation or more than three weeks off 2008. Which has left me very, very busy and quite stressed out most of the time.

I started at Cuyahoga Community College, where I planned on getting an associate degree in journalism before moving on to a university. Then I changed my mind and thought about becoming certified in polysomnography, so I could be a sleep study technician. Again, I changed my mind. I thought about becoming a psychologist as well. I debated on that one for a long time, because I love to help and listen to people. However; I know that I would not be able to separate my own life from my work life, and I would be the type to dwell on the stories of my patients.

So I went back to English. In about two weeks, I'll be starting at Cleveland State University. I'm still debating between the creative writing track and the secondary education track. If I choose creative writing, I'd have to go straight for my Master of Fine Arts, because I want to teach at the college level (I already have a planned syllabus!). The secondary education track would allow me to teach middle school and high school until I get a master's degree. The creative writing track will take the least amount of time, but I worry about my options being too limited.

As for my aspirations, I'm a writer. I've been writing stories and creating characters since I was really young. I wrote a series of children's books when I was in the fifth grade, and I wrote three or four novellas in middle school. Right now, I'm working on several projects, one of which is a novel called Origin. It's really different from anything I've written before, and it's causing me a bit of grief, but I like the challenge. My dream is to be published, and right now, I'm well on that path. I just have to keep working as hard as I have been, and put myself out there a little more. Which will admittedly be difficult, because of my anxiety disorder, but I've got a lot of new found determination.

My dinning room. Now that I have a laptop, I'm not stuck working in my bedroom, which happens to be the coldest room in the house.
