I don't disagree on the use of "she" and he" for ciswomen and cismen respectively. However, I do believe the rigid gender dichotomy of male OR female does inaccurately represent the great diversity and fluidity there exists in gender identity (did you know they had 5 genders in Indonesia that people can identify with?).

Something that irks me about the modern English language is the lack of gender neutral language. In Vietnamese, we can often colloquially refer to a friend as "nó" regardless of their gender. So why no such formal equivalent? In English, many formal documents try to use make-do gender neutral language ("he/she" or "they"), or, most often than not, just refer to individuals as males ("he"). It makes me uneasy to think male is the "default" (and therefore dominant) gender, but I don't blame the writers as much as the lack of a more official word for "he/she." So, no, gender neutral language isn't stupid. Gender identity can be very sensitive (and even triggering when discussed) to people, and I certainly don't think it is okay to exclusively use "he" or "she" in the guise that it they are gender neutral.

Though not entirely untrue, it would probably be more accurate to say that it is because I believe too idealistically in libertarianism as a building block of some sort of a utopia (which, by applied definition, cannot exist). It just doesn't work. Attempting to put extreme libertarianism into practice is like initiating another cultural revolution (but instead giving free reign to the people rather than the state). I don't trust either of them, which is why I can't say I properly identify as a proponent of either pure libertarianism or pure socialism (or pure anything really).

Theoretically, I could root for libertarianism. But in practice, no.

Again, I must quote my favourite woman in the industry (not that I know of anyone really): "What one person sees as degrading and disgusting and bad for women might make some women feel empowered and beautiful and strong." - Sasha Grey

Many women in the industry have expressed that they do not feel victimized or objectified, but that they knew what they were doing and enjoyed their work. Like any other, it is a professional career choice for many to make, and to say that them choosing to be in the sex industry is not respectable is to objectify the women yourself.

It is sexist to objectify women, but it is also sexist to think that the "poor things" must be objectified and depicted as inferiors in whatever role they feel empowered in playing. That mindset, sir, /defines/ the patriarchy and their fauxminism. Just because a woman wants to sleep around for money does not mean she must be reduced to an object (that's like calling a farmer a produce machine for their services). IS GROWING FRUIT ALL THAT THE MAN IS GOOD FOR? DOES HE NOT HAVE FEELINGS?? I AM TIRED OF FARMERS BEING OBJECTIFIED.

... I know that with how they are currently being depicted in society it is easy to assume that sex work promotes objectification of women, but if one feels "empowered and beautiful and strong" in her own skin and in being able to choose whatever profession fits her needs, then it is just that - empowering. If a woman, or man, is forced to any kind of labour against their will, /that/ is objectification - whether it be farming, sex work in brothels, or even as president. As empowering and progressive the position as president may sound for a woman, if it against her will, that, too, is objectification - man or woman.

that's like denying the holocaust ever happened. grow up. it is not about the capability, it is about the conviction. if you don't /see/ yourself passionate or capable to make change when it comes to poverty, no one's going to judge you for it. the majority of the first world can't be fucked to care, either. we all have different priorities, different causes we believe in, and not everybody's has to be poverty and nothing else.

however, for you to justify that with "whatever, fuck them, it's not like we can do anything about it and it's not my responsibility to learn about it," it is EXACTLY the kind of collective mindset that hinders all progress in this world. it also perpetuates a very immaturely justified ignorance. congratulations.

    14. Lucy Doan

If you believe the choice to sex work has anything to do with objectification of women, you're deeply mistaken.

Human trafficking, on the other hand, is a completely different idea.
